Soma makes benzo tolerance skyrocket?

Has this been anyone else's experience?

I got hold off some Soma and played around with for a few weeks. Tolerance seemed to rise at an unreal speed. The first time it felt like kind of being drunk, then it felt like a strong benzo (very much like Rohypnol), and I don't normally feel benzos much, then I felt nothing. I guess this is not a med you can take every day.

Either way, to my point, when I'd run out and wanted to try some benzos it was like I couldn't feel them anymore, at all. Seems like obviously tolerance caused by a much stronger, similar drug? Or what are your thoughts?

I use it to potentiate my opiates or when my back is really hurting and I feel I need to take a muscle relaxer.. other than that, I don't take it daily.. and my dr gives me as many as I want.

Not sure how those responses answer the question in any way. Ninae wasn't asking whether people love Soma, but if it is known to make benzo tolerance rise and if so why.

Soma is a brand name for carisoprodol and is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant, sedative, and anxiolytic. Benzos share these same effects. Tolerance to Soma goes up very quickly and it can create a physiological dependence (where you get withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking it abruptly after taking it regularly for long enough). The GABAergic activity of carisoprodol has been shown in studies to be similar to benzodiazepines. So it makes complete sense that it would raise one's tolerance to benzos.

I have to disagree to a major soma and Benzo cross tolerance.

I took 3 somas a day for a few months and then it was d/c.

A week or two passed before I took a 5mg Valium.

The Valium worked great for my anxiety and muscle relaxation.

I did not notice a difference in relief from my previous soma use.

Now i think that if you take high doses of soma then maybe.

But everyone is different. No two people are the same.
