It's a shame that the film, while telling a different truth, does not address the fact that all but one Argentine unit was of conscripts. 18 and 19 year old kids who never wanted to be there, had no understanding of the conflict, but were killed so TWO dictators could stay in power.
Only Tumbledown had a unit of professional Argentinian marines. They fought hard, they fought well, they were brave men. But in the end, professional warriors know that 'violence of action' is the only way to take a strong-point and there, a lot of good men from two nations died - but at least that is what they signed up for; to fight.
In the UK, as a child, my own teacher asked us to pray for British soldiers. That is why I am not a Christian. Even aged 11 I knew that you cannot pray for violence nor select who will be saved,
Look at a map. Where are the Malvinas/Falkland Islands.
Why IS it British? Because it has a 7000 yeard runway so from those islands, a small force can stop a large force from transiting the Atlantic and the Pasific. At the very least the UK could have agreed a 99 year 'rental' so both sides could get what they wanted, nobody gets hurt. But Galtieri and Thatcher NEEDED a war.
As it typical with British homour, we suggested that the highest military medal sould be renamed 'The Postumous Victoria Cross'.
Still, even rumours of Ghurkas coming apparently scared those conscripts. They btoke and ran but they lived. What professional warrior can be proud of killing kids? So neither side talks about what happened and more importantly, WHY it happened. WHY did diplomecy fail?
