Opioids soft pods?

Hello. My friend just got in his 10th or so box of dried pods, and this batch for the first time is actually very soft. The pods look the same, but when my friend attempts to break them up they are very malleable/soft. Is this due to weather conditions perhaps during january shipping? Or, could they just be not as old and dry as a usual batch? I'm really baffled by this. Perhaps if they are just sort of wet from shipping they will dry in a few days? I'm not sure how much water could have gotten into them though, as they were in a tied shut plastic bag during shipping inside a cardboard box. I'm hoping the integrity is not damaged due to whatever this is.
 
I'd guess that they are fresher than usual. That means higher opium content which is good. Eat them asap, they might be stronger than usual.
