There are two 'sorts' of muscles that control urine flow from the bladder. The first is the detrusor muscle, which causes the bladder to contract (building up pressure.) The second is a group of muscles that, as I said, surround the urethra (the tube carrying urine from the bladder to the outside.) When urinating, the detrusor contracts (to build up pressure in the bladder), while the urethral sphincter muscles relax (allowing the urine to actually flow out of the bladder.) MDMA causes trouble urinating (even when your bladder is full) because it tenses up these sphincter muscles.
It's a stress reaction to conserve water. So, it's not that your body thinks it IS dehydrated so much as it fears it MAY become dehydrated (because you might be too sick to get to water for a while.) You may have noticed reduced urine production during the worst of the flu and the like as well.
Other way around. The screwed up sodium (and other electrolyte) levels cause water intoxication (altered mental state due to altered electrolyte levels.)
MDMA increases the amount of an antiduretic hormone into the bloodstream (called Vasopressin) it reduces the need to go for a pee.
Basically the body thinks its dehydrated so pumps this stuff out to preserve water.

It then leads to water intoxication and then this screws up your sodium levels (hyponatremia).
