So....people apparantly get crazy euphoria from oral opiates?

Is there something wrong with me that I get barely any euphoria from oral opiates, time release or instant? For a while I got some euphoria from 15mg oxycodone, but now I will get a nod or even anxiety from being over sedated long before I get any real euphoria.

Am I just spoiled by 'real' recreational drugs like molly and other stims (that I used as a teenager and my early 20s), or is it fairly typical to just get sleepy and not really enjoy it?

The only opiate that gave me real euphoria is Dilaudid, IV and even oral in the right dosage. Oxycodone was distant second, and even IV morphine is kind of boring and sleepy to me.

I often wonder why people make such a big deal about these drugs. I think their recreational potential is minimal if you are not in pain or dependent on opiates in general.....maybe the IVers are getting the real euphoria?...still, you would think that it would just take a higher dose to get there orally, minus the initial rush, but instead they just make me sleepy and not especially euphoric. As it stands, I find it difficult to understand why people would go out of their way to find pills if they were not addicted....I mean, for less money you can get way more euphoria.

Is something wrong with me? I dont get that much euphoria from coke either.

Everyone feels drugs differently. I personally do not get euphoria from cocaine or meth - whether i take them orally, snort or smoke them. But I don't assume everyone else in the world feels the same way I do.

Some people experience profound euphoria from opiates no matter how they are taken, although growing tolerance often makes oral use infeasible and iv use much more rational from a financial standpoint.

I get (got) more euphoria from a few vicodin pills than a nice rock of good crack. Why? Guess my brain chemistry is wired that way.

Thats a reasonable comment. I guess some people just like to be relaxed and sleepy I guess.

I consider euphoria to be a mix of dopamine and endorphins producing powerful sensations that trigger the reward center of the brain. Serotonin can add entactogen effects, but it depends.

"Bliss" on the other hand is a complete lack of negative feelings, total well being, which may include euphoria but is more than that.

Yeah, I dont assume everyone is the same, which is why I phrased my question the way I did.

Personally, I got intense euphoria from stims.....the greatest euphoria on speedy molly, or speedy acid, or AMT or Mescaline with molly.......Those experiences are unlike any normal earthly experience.

By contrast my pain medication is ho hum, but it helps me live a normal life pain free.

I WISH I could experience what you experience.

Opiates seem to have wildly different effects on people. Lack of euphoria is mild compared to the dizziness, nausea and projectile vomiting some people get from even small doses of weak opiates like hydrocodone or codeine. I actually think it's a minority that experiences zen-like bliss and euphoria from oral opiate use, which is probably a good thing.

There are tons of theories about why some people are drawn to opiates (endorphin deficiency is a personal fave), but "we're all different" is the best anyone can say for sure.

Bliss seems to me a better word for how opiates feel than euphoria.

Agreed.

Yeah, I agree, IME the best euphoria comes from entactogenic drugs like MDMA and 2C-I. :D But I also really like the relaxed, warm-fuzzy feeling from opiates.

Oral opiates are a practical "every-day" solution to getting a buzz, because you just relax and go to sleep. Party drugs are more euphoric and fun (IMO), but they keep you up late and drain your brain so you can't do them as often. And, at least where I live, it's easier to find painkillers than good molly or psychedelics, so I use them more frequently.

And you mentioned that you are taking pain medication... maybe your lack of good feelings is because of tolerance? When I had to be on Lortabs after having my tonsils removed, I developed a pretty decent tolerance after just a few weeks.

Like others have mentioned, differences in brain chemistry or whatnot can explain why some people feel euphoric from a small dose of opiates and others don't. I personally like opiates because I have a tendency to get anxious easily, and they chill me out nicely vs. a stim like cocaine which can make me feel worse.

I can agree with almost everything said, but even high doses that make me nod are not that special.....am I deficient in endorphins in general?

I have never had some kind of orgasmic experience from opiates...IV dialudid was close, but it still doesnt match party drugs.

I can see getting addicted when you use them often and depend on them, but the high is pretty mellow.

I got more euphoria from mushrooms than anything else. Now I take Vicodin for pain & the first couple times I tool it, it was pure euphoria & the warm blanket feeling off just 1 pill. I still just take 1 pill every 4 to 6 hours for pain & its been a year now. It doesnt give me the same feelings I was getting for that 1st month but it does take away the pain which is my main focus.

If I didnt have pain, I wouldnt be taking any opiates because if you're taking them to just get high w/o pain, your tolerance sky rockets quickly because you start to take alot more pills to get the high you had gotten the first couple of times.

I believe the brain chemistry discussed above is correct. Some people are not wired the way others are who get the most out of opiates & with a low tolerance. My gf had a high tolerance right from the get go when she 1st tried opiates where my tolerance was so low, half of a Vicodin would get me nauseated & ready to vomit & I couldnt understand why people liked opiates so much. My girlfriend would snort 2 xanax & pop 2 Vicodins & be chill but not wacked out like I would be if I ever did what she had done. Like mentioned above, everyone is wired differently!

Im assuming you dont abuse your pain meds since you dont get that euphoric feeling & only take them when you're hurting which is a good thing in the long run, catch my drift?

On the other hand, I myself get no euphoria from MDMA, instead get an anxiety and nervousness, almost akin to a bout of depression and its when I come down that I finally feel good.

Stims dont feel nice to me, at all. Yet I still did them copiously....sometimes it would be enjoyable, but I never feel/felt anything close to the euphoria some folk rave on about. Whereas Kratom gives me an unmatchable euphoria. But then there are some people who dont experience any effects from Kratom.

Diff'rent strokes and all that

yeaa mushrooms is only thing that i have experienced real euphoria from.

With opiates it is more bliss too me i just like first off the whole ritual with snorting white powder mmm and then just completely zoning out and not thinking about shit.:)

Mushrooms with chocolate gives me euphoria, more than without chocolate. I guess there is a mild MAOI like effect from it.

It has to be real chocolate, not sweetened candy bar.

where my tolerance was so low, half of a Vicodin would get me nauseated & ready to vomit

yeah i feel ya dawg. half a Vicodin would have me flying so high i had to just chill and collect myself. half a regular Vicodin is harsh bro! It's like flying high on heroin for real. I'm nodding out totally. i don't even know why they make lortabs. fuck that. from now on i'm gonna cut my Vicodin tabs into 1/4's instead of just in 1/2's. hydros are waaaaaaay too strong imo. Still, no buzz tops half a tylenol 3 tablet (tylenol with codeine) 15 mgs

Nah, I don't like feeling relaxed and sleepy. When I take opiates I get EUPHORIA - an incredible feeling of joy and exhilaration that seems to take over every part of my body. I want to run through the streets, shout how happy I feel from every roof top, and, of course, talk. Talk talk talk. The world feels perfect, and I feel like nothing will ever make me feel bad again.

I think euphoria is pretty universal. I got euphoria ONCE from a stimulant, and strangely it was when I popped two ritalin pills back when I was 15 years old. The ritalin euphoria was similar to the opiate euphoria - but the opiate still felt quite a bit better.
