Prescribed me .5 to 1mg of xanax at bedtime...I was under the impression that this was a no no..I am benzo naive btw...any one help me with the safety of this combo....I am on roughly 2-3 mg of sub now

If your Dr rxed it should be fine. My bf is on 8mgs of suboxone a day & gets rxed 6mgs of klonopin daily. I'm on methadone and I take benzos everyday. As long as u don't overdo it you should be fine. .5mgs of xanax is really not that much and you're on a pretty low dose of suboxone so if u actually need it, take it. Just take as needed because benzos are so easy to become dependent on and a real bitch to come off of. Good luck.

Buprenorphine doesn't cause as much respiratory depression as other opioids, so as poster above said, it should be fine. However, mixing benzos with methadone can be dangerous.
Do not take the xanex every night though. Keep it to 2 or 3 times a week. Try supplementing with valerian or melatonin for sleep. I've had good results with a brand called Alteril.

Thanx guys for the input, this quoted post confuses me a bit tho....no danger of a benzo addiction, just for use when getting to sleep is a bit rough...anyways I have roughly 168mgs of bupe at my disposal...any ideas on how I should use it for a not too short bit not too long taper off? Only been on 4 days at about 2-3 mgs a day

I know, I didn't even mention it, he jus threw em at me on the first appt.
I would look for a new doctor, that's highly questionable. No one with a history of addiction should be scripted Xanax, it's a disaster waiting to happen. Maybe your doc is just a pill pusher. Regardless, if you're serious about recovery get rid of the Xanax and find a new doctor.

You may be correct...he prescribed me 24 mg of sub for a 180 mg a day oxy habit and when I expressed concern over the high amount he said that my suggestion of 4mgs or less was crazy, he then offered me kpin and I said I wasn't too keen on the loooong half life he scripted the xanax....anyhow, I really have no use for benzos, I have been scripted them before for anxiety and never really took them stave for a few occasions, I was more wondering about the interaction of the two drugs???

Everything I have read about this combo pretty much says I could end up dead so I am just gonna flush the zannies...Thanx for all the input once a gain tho, just wish I could find something to combat the anxiety I get here and there...feel free to close this out mods...Thx again.

Well it probably won't kill you, but if you don't really need it, I wouldn't take it..
I used to abuse Xanax and with my maturity it became retarted and now I only take .25-.5 if I can't sleep...
As of now I haven't had any benzos in about 2 weeks...not that i'm counting lol, but IMHO I feel so much better, anxiety wise and just overall, than I did when I took even .25 a night.
I don't sleep past noon anymore, and when I wake up and pop my hydros, i'm telling you I GET SHIT DONE!!

Your not gonna die, don't flush em' down the toilet, save them for when you need them and be thankful you have a Sub doctor who doesn't just spout out benzo's and this will kill ya...got news for ya docs it doesn't if you have an opiate tolerance high enough to start subs...
Edit: It really doesnt, I just wanna stress this... It doesn't even have the nod synergy that Methadone and Xanax have(and thats fine also unless your taking enough of the benzo to get ya all fucked up) but really no synergy at all with the nod/respitorory deppression, even at 15 fuckin' milligrams.

If you're not all that excited about the alprazolam (therefore not likely an addiction issue), I don't see any harm in hanging on to them for a while in case they may be of use to you. I can almost promise you they will not explode or even start burning through your medicine cabinets.

Believe it or not... this class of drugs are beneficial for many individuals and (gasp) safe combined in low dosages with o piods. (Especially bupe) bupe actually affects many people in a stimulating fashion making sleep difficult in some cases.

I cant believe a sub doc would prescribe that. The clinic I went to (and most clinics around here) wont let you be on it, even if you have it prescribed from another doctor, because its considered addictive.
OP consider yourself lucky to have such an "easy going" doc.
Dont flush the pills,keep them,they might be valuable in the future..
As far as the doc is concerned,dont let him manipulate you into taking whatever he gives you,take what you feel comfortable taking and save the rest for a rainy day.

I took kpins both on methadone(120mg daily) and while on bupe never had a problem. Granted I was at a private methadone clinic that only card about $, they only said I shouldn't but never held out on me if I had cash.
But like someone else said if you have a tolerance that required bupe to come down you are safe to take such a small amount of xanax. But there's no need to take it if you don't need it, that way it'll really work if you really do need it.

^^^ yup. Ive been on my daily 2 mg k-pin in addition to my 115 daily methadone with no problems at all. They simply checked my vitals when I started (I was already on the k-pin when I started the clinic) and everything was fine for my entire time increasing. They require a pill count to make sure I'm not abusing. When used improperly the combination can be deadly (as with any added cns depressant), but this written-in-stone "never" regarding prescribing benzos with narcotics is ridiculous just like other untrue sweeping generalizations about benzos.

I ended up ditching them, I have some kpins laying around from an old script anyhow..I am prescribed 24 mgs of subutex daily but only ever take around .5 to .75 mg daily and I feel ok other than cravings which I have onto tonight and aye about 75 mgs of oxy...I have roughly 2 weeks "clean" on the low dose sub and I def felt the oxy dose...think this will Set me back to day one?
