Cocaine So is crack the form cocaine is in in the plant?

Cocaine base is what is yielded before it's turned into cocaine hydrochloride, right? And crack is re-basified cocaine, right?
 
That makes sense but I can't say if it is right or not... I haven't done coca but I've done both crack and cocaine and they are REALLY different

Crack is freebase cocaine with the cut mixed in. It just hits you faster and lasts shorter when you smoke cocaine base, and you can't use crack/freebase any other way except smoking it or turning it back into cocaine salt. Simply, crack is cocaine, but all cocaine is not crack.
 
I believe that most alkaloids are found as a salt within the plant. They are probably biosynthesized as the free base at first, but fairly quickly come into contact with an acid within the plant, or CO2 in the air to form the carbonate salt.

And yes, generally in production/extraction of cocaine they do the extraction from the coca in basic conditions, turning the salt form within the plant into the freebase. From there it is purified (look up acid/base reaction) and turned into it's salt form again. It doesn't have to go in that order though. They could also start by extracting it in acidic conditions in which case they would be starting with a salt, freebase it, and turn it back into a salt again.

when I was chewing coca in Peru, you use lime (the chemical - it's a base) to get the alkaloids to leach out of the leaves, so I would imagine it's a salt in the plant and gets basified during production.

He is just clarifying my point that you can't fucking "IV Crack", it is a retarded thing to say and there have been so many posts about it lately it is getting ridiculous. Crack is smoked, period. If you "IV crack", it is no longer crack because you have to turn it back into regular cocaine salt. When newbs talk about "IVing crack" they are implying they would shoot crack rocks which wouldn't work and would just severely clog some veins.
 
Seems like the fuss here is about semantics... I agree, you can't shoot crack, as it's a base and wont dissolve in water. In order to shoot the crack, you would need to add an acid (citric acid, vinegar) as opposed to if you were to shoot powder you would use water instead of an acid. People just say they're IVing crack because that's what it is before they turn in back into a salt to shoot. Whenever I see someone talk about Iving crack, I dont think of people trying to shoot crack and water into their veins, I think of the process that must be done in order to de-base it.
 
ya i agree, for the term.....iv crack....all that means was it started as crack......

but alot of clarification has just happened......
