Advice: Do NOT get high before you go shroom hunting. Identification is just fucking impossible, plus i was in the woods alone for like 30 minutes. Not fun. Ended up getting 2 of what might be Panaeolus cinctulus.
Also I am still not really sure if we allow this discussion here since it has all the characteristics of an ID thread even if it is not explicit yet. Asking for advice how to determine the ID of something you will be hunting is still asking for an ID.
And the reasons why we don't allow ID threads is similar to why I think we do not allow mushroom hunting threads: one might get the wrong assumption that it is possible to correctly ID something even in situations where that is not the case. This can lead to a false sense of security which is something we find even worse to instigate than lack of information. At least a lack of information is true in the sense that you can make a personal decision on that whether you find it worth risking your health over doing it anyway. And you have to live with the consequences of that decision yourself.
I think it is a bad idea to go mushroom hunting unless you are really especially educated on the matter, one way for that would be to learn from a mycologist, another would be to first read tons on biological / mycological determination of species.
At this point I think we should keep the shroom hunting subthread for people to read a few things, a few opinions from people but I wanna remove specific information. I want to redirect people to the Shroomery if they want to do this anyway but am against hosting this type of discussion.
Consider the status of the matter pending, though unless we reach a decision nothing will happen.
Once you know what you're doing its incredibly rewarding. I don't even pick anymore, i just love the fun in hunting for them. It's like looking for treasure!
