And fucking lovely it was. I wasn't sick. Didn't plan on it, ended up with some dodgy crack head and bought a tenner bag. Went home and chased the tiniest little bit ever, I mean literally a crumb and it felt so nice, and I'm well used to pethidine, morphine, dhc so I am accustomed to opiates.

Carried on until I was in oblivion, absolute bliss, I'd had a couple of valiums earlier too and had mates round me too so all was safe. I was nodding for about four hours.

It must have been good gear I reckon too, rock, smelt perfumey, almost insence.

Never EVER thought I'd do it. But I enjoyed it and would do it again.

Having done every other drug out there recreationally, ie pills, speed, acid, shrooms, coke, crack and countless pharmaceuticals. I wouldn't say it was the most enjoyable and you get nothing from it but its a lovely feeling, like a kiss from god. Is just not a drug you learn from and this definately a drug to be treated with respect.

I will do it again, but its all about respect and not letting it get on top of you. Plus I don't have easy access to dealers really round here.

It was an experience to be had in my opinion. Blows any other opiate even IV Morphine clean out the water, less side effects too.

The only damage that comes from the drug is the addiction and effects of pinning up etc which I'd NEVER EVER do, and thats a cert because thats a one way ticket to hell and back if your lucky.

I reckon its even possible to get the odd tenner bag to share every now and again with no harm done. Thought I'd share.

Any thoughts?

The first statement you made is truer than most people imagine; I believe the moment I finally stopped believing myself when I would rationalize the hell out of using heroin and tell myself that I could stop using opioids someday as long as I executed a well-planned/-disciplined/-medicated taper/withdrawal and distanced myself from the entire scene was the first time I pushed down on the plunger of a syringe filled with two bags of heroin inserted into a vein.

From that moment on, I knew that I was on a one-way street for at least 10-50x longer than I originally thought before when I was only snorting, and maybe forever. Indeed, to this day, I require a daily dose of opioids to function, and the many times I attempted to successfully withdraw (I only tried cold-turkey once after I met the needle; I lasted a pathetic 24-26 hours before I was literally writhing on my bed screaming and crying in agony, and that was on klonopin, seroquel, and trazodone @ 3x my normal knock-me-out-now-PLEASE-dosages each) with Suboxone failed utterly (I think I made it two weeks once, but was in danger of losing my job due to the massive swath of work that I hadn't even been able to start due to experience the most profound and legendary lack of motivation that only long-term narcotic abuse withdrawal can precipitate, and that was only one problem among many whose collective sum, at that moment, looked a lot worse than going out and buying two bundles, so that was that).

When I had built up enough debt to begin to scare the shit out of me, I started Methadone. I consider myself very, very lucky to "only" have had around $350k of debt at that point (around $290k of that existed prior to my addiction), to still have my job paying me six figures, to never have been arrested and thus possessing no criminal record, to not (at that time) have any chronic pain conditions, to not have ever put myself in the hospital from using (I came close a few times, waking up hours after a shot on the floor of the room), to not have ever stolen from anyone or anything other than heroin dealers who had already stolen much more from me in the past and bragged about it to their friends, and to still have my significant other and some friends left.

Lucky as I am, I'm still chained to A) Taking (and paying for) 110mg Methadone/day or facing months of more debilitating withdrawal than I've experienced to this point, and B) Not feeling anything other than absolutely insane and ridiculous quantities of other opioids (if the heroin is really good and the bags are really generous, I will feel -- very briefly -- a 10-bag shot; I have shot up to 15 bags in the past while on methadone and have never once achieved a high that was high enough to enjoy), which is especially scary if I'm ever involved in a bad trauma and/or require pain relief for treatment of said trauma (e.g. it's very difficult to pop certain displaced bones back into place without enough sedation to relax the various involuntarily-clamped muscles responding to the pain stimulus), or get cancer, or something.

Your second supposition, in which you "reckon" that it is possible to get the "odd bag" "now and then" "to share with friends" without any "harm" being done, is fraught with dangerous zones full of what are known as Famous Last Words. That said, it's also a question that will get you a great deal of unique answers and to which there is no real answer other than the one that you, by being phenomenally honest with yourself, can provide.

While I feel that anyone can muster the willpower required to simply not do a drug, no matter what the allure is (my feelings differ when physiological symptoms begin to manifest as a result of not doing said drug, e.g. withdrawal, but I'm not talking about that, I'm just talking about the urge to do a drug), what most people do to themselves by using heroin for the first time (and what you've done to yourself by using whatever opioid you enjoyed more than heroin for the first time) is of profound philosophical significance. They have ingested a substance which has caused their brain to fire more pleasure signals than they have ever experienced in their lives, outside of orgasm or a severely transcendental episode of meditative/spiritual bliss (almost everyone's experienced one but not the other, and everyone will agree that it is difficult to experience either "at will" especially just after having experienced it). However, after that first snort, shot, smoke, pill, or whatever, they have discovered a methodology resulting in hours of the best feeling one will ever experience in life (excluding those feelings above that are A) brief in duration and B) infrequent), and they have given themselves that power basically at the veritable press of a button.

Is this a wise move? This is another one of those whiz-bang philosophical questions that Only You Can Answer, so I won't try to argue my specific feelings on the topic (which, in characteristic hedging fashion, change based upon the current cultural attitude towards the notion of Better Living Through Chemistry, as well as the current progress of medical science into the field of narcotics and whether they have yielded an opioid substance that results in no tolerance or dependence).

In any case, the veritable button has been pressed at that point, and in my opinion, if one does not (by choice or otherwise) engage in phenomenal powers of denial/hypnotic suggestion/PTSD/etc., the brain will always kind of desire the feelings of that moment again, just one more time, somehow, if possible, please.

Unfortunately, this mild but persistant desire has the effect of raising the expectations of the second use of the drug so high that it is inevitably a letdown, beginning an infinite loop process in which the user is chasing that first high and never quite getting it again. However, the chasing process involves (thanks to a combination of current medical knowledge, human nature, and the generally capitalist nature of contemporary society) an ever-increasing dose as tolerance increases, and before one knows it, there's a physical dependence that's suddenly appeared, which generally isn't apparent until the user tries to stop and is suddenly wracked with horrible physical and psychological agony, instantly and euphorically curable with a tiny volume of powder. Q.E.D. Addiction.

It's rare that you hear someone utter the "odd bag" "now and then" to "share" "with friends" phrase without slowly but surely justifying that (perfectly innocent and devoid of all above consequences, if done correctly, e.g. with sufficient time between uses to allow any down-regulation that has occurred to reverse itself naturally) collection of phrases to transform into another, subtly but profoundly different, collection of phrases signifying that moment when you've sort of tripped into the rabbit-hole: I "only" use "a little" per day to keep me feeling normal, or I "only" use when my "friends" are "sharing" with me, every 2-3 days, or I "only" use to "celebrate," etc. Each of them is basically someone's personalized ticket to hell, and I guess depending on how the user first encounters it, there are a few stops along the way if you want to walk back to where you were before, but before long it's an express route, do not pass go, etc. ad infinitum.

IMHO, the only person that can indefinitely "chip"/use occasionally without developing physiological dependence is the person who knows that opioids just aren't his/her "thing." This is generally known upon the first use of a full agonist opioid that isn't codeine. These people will either cease opioid use altogether or continue to use maybe 2-8 times a year, give or take, because the experience, to them, basically violates my entire post and ISN'T the most pleasurable thing they've ever experienced aside from orgasm/speaking to god. I have never personally observed anyone ELSE, who DID profoundly enjoy his/her first use of an opioid and who then later learned how easy it is to obtain something like heroin, not end up with an addiction of at least somewhat remarkable magnitude. I've seen people in the latter category successfully "chip" for very short times (never) and for very, very long times (years and years), but each and every one of them that I've ever known has eventually fallen into the rabbit-hole.

This post is already far too long, so I won't continue to ramble about what is likely to decide whether a person will find the addict's lifestyle tolerable or intolerable, or whether a person will find methadone maintenance tolerable/intolerable, or the myriad of ways in which our society is totally fucked up and should be supplying the opioid of choice to any physically dependent individual for an incredibly low cost (perhaps even nothing) which would destroy the black market and thus drastically reduce the incidence of new addicts. Maybe some other time.

But I decided it's been 2-3 years since I started posting on BL so maybe people should know a little more about me. Here's my pathetic addict story as it relates to the comparatively short portion of my life spent using hard narcotics on a daily basis. If you've read this far, wow, I'm sort of flattered, because most of this was most likely shit, especially considering I'm approaching 24 hours without sleep. But hey, hope it wasn't too painful.

Thanks for the reply. I took a lot from it.

I probably will do it again, have a good experience and get a good feel for it and leave it and all other opiates alone completely, I've already stopped and cut down a lot of other shit and this can be the finale for me. I've got my whole life ahead and theres a whole world out there to be seen and experienced.:)

Well, I'm not trying to insult you by doubting your willpower, or beat a dead horse, or really do anything other than disseminate factual information, but I will say that I personally had already cut down (and successfully quit!) a "lot of other shit" before I ever found heroin. Booze, pot, acid, cocaine (had 6 months there when I was psychologically addicted to coke -- and I actually thought it was difficult to quit! hahahaha! compared to quitting heroin, quitting coke is like, well, what it's actually like -- napping often for a day or two and being tired -- a feeling that one comes to desire after 30 consecutive days of absolutely no sleep beyond 10 minute loss-of-consciousness events that occur when your body basically shuts itself down due to lack of sleep until the agonizing pain wakes you up 10 minutes later without ever having registered that you were sleeping)... Basically, my (mostly very positive) experiences with all these other drugs I think made me a tad arrogant/invincible-feeling when I began using oxycontin and then heroin.

I used oxy very responsibly -- at most 40mg per week, all on a single day of the weekend in a single dose. This continued for 5-6 months until I discovered that heroin could be had for about 1/10 the price (dose-for-dose -- remembering how little it took to feel like 40mg of oxy makes me honestly think that the heroin was really good at that time, better than the usual "God the dope was good back when I started using it" general sentiment that one hears all the time due to tolerance), at which point I switched to using dope fairly responsibly on the same schedule -- once a week, two doses instead of one since dope lasted less time than oxycontin. This "responsible" use pattern (note that it isn't terribly responsible, since it will still form tolerance in most users, but physical dependence, if it ever manifests, will be very manageable) continued for a few more months when I added Wednesdays to my weekly schedule. At that point I was using every 2-3 days, and things went downhill quickly to daily use within the space of a week or two.

So things can happen very insidiously, and since when human beings are in the thick of a situation of any kind, they tend to have fairly shortsighted memories and goals, so they no longer really see that many-month-old part of their lives where, say, they were using opioids maybe 4 times a year. They only see months and months of using once a week, with no discernable consequences, so they up the ante. Rinse, repeat.

Another part of this insidious, euphoric slide into hell, at least for people who grew up in the US when I did, IMHO, was the DARE program, or basically any drug education program that favors a unilateral "Just say no" campaign over a factually detailed education on each class of illegal drugs. It was this idiotic source of drug propoganda that instilled in me at a very young age a horribly inaccurate impression that basically all drugs were equally "bad" or "bad for you." Sure as I went through high school and college, certain drugs took on more intense/"hardcore" reputations than others, but this is purely a function of culture and not necessarily of factual experience. After college, once I had successfully abused and stopped abusing every single class of drugs, and discovered opioids, all of these aspects of my past combined and resulted in a realization -- that came far too late, at least for me -- that, unlike every other class of drugs that ever made it onto the overhead projector during DARE, opiates/heroin ACTUALLY DID result in phenominally horrifying and miserable consequences! I had been duped! I was shocked and embarrassed to be proven so fucking naive at what I had presumed to be an advanced and prematurely wise age (story of everyone's life, just usually not resulting in an absolutely engorging daily dependency on 22 times the therapeutic dose of a long-acting hard narcotic).

In any case, yeah, it's another novel, but whatever. I'm not posting this all just for Uprising, but for anyone who cares to read it all, and I'm all for experimentation with psychoactive substances, but I do hope someone remembers some of this post if they do find themselves using a euphoric dose of opioids once a week before that quiet, nagging, utterly persistant part of their brain begins to suggest that it might be in order to enjoy them a bit more often. Unless you are immeasurably rich, immortal, immune to federal prosecution, and eager to lose whatever social life to which you may have become accustomed, try to think really hard about what you really want to do while being really honest with yourself, and make sure that you are 100% confident of your decision... Like I said last post, some people (a fantastically rare minority) can manage the addict lifestyle with keen resourcefulness, categorically avoiding arrest, destitiution, resorting to crime, withdrawal, and managing to give the proper amount of attention to their friends despite preferring a long, slow afternoon on the couch immeasurably to doing anything else at all. I'm not going to sit here judging who is who, but hopefully at least someone gets some entertainment or even applicable foreknowledge from reading this endlessly rambling swill.

But likely not, so here's where it mercifully stops.

D-death that was a fucking beautiful post. I was like our friend at first but it will grab a hold of you and simply won't let go.

All I ever wanted to be was a chipper but having money and easy connections kinda fucked that idea.

watch out man. it sounds like you have a lot of confidence which is a dangerous thing. when you first try it, its not what hollywood made it out to be. "shit man i just did heroin it was awesome I feel great" and from that point you dont see it as such a big deal, and in a way it isnt. but when you say stuff like you liked it and would do it again thats just a slippery fuckin slope. the problem is when you think you have everything under control, even if you do, that gives you more the reason to go out and use and use and use and use and then detox and then use and use and use then detox then use then detox then use then go to rehab then use then get arrested then use and use and use then get put on probation and use then detox then use then fuckin die or go to jail or whatever man. it sounds fuckin cliche but it happens so much. it happened to me, im fucked from the stuff and im still fucking using! and i sounded like you when i first started. and if you are anything like me when i first started youre not going to listen to any of this bullshit and do what you want anyways! so good luck man as far as im concerned theres no looking back now.

Perfect. Uprising, you need to reread this paragraph at least 10 times. Read it daily. I am completely serious. If you continue on with H, word by word, this 'prophecy' will become your reality. What diacetyldeath has said here is so accurate it's pure poetry.

Below are a few words from his post that you can either trust to be true now or know to be true later;

"infinite loop"
"inevitably a letdown"
"suddenly appeared"
"agony"
"curable"

H is the ultimate conartist. It's right at the moment you think you can see how things work that it's already too late. Please dont' think I'm talking down to you- I'm in the same place you are....unfortunately, I've been here before.

Be careful brother.

"Destroy", I'm not sure...it definitely would temporarily cripple it, but there will always be a black market...it's human nature. But that's a full page post of its own.

Once again, Perfect. What the fuck does "Just say no" even mean??? "Don't think at all?"

DD, very well written.

This isnt really a question so i dont think it really belongs in other drugs. I think it is more of a shitty trip report than anything. If everyone posted a thread every time they tried a new drug it would clog up the forum and i wouldnt bother looking at this site anymore. Does anyone else feel the same way?

PS I am trying tramadol tonight (the last pharmy opioid i havent tried) and you wont see me making a post about what i thought about it, and if i were to it would be in the trip reports section. Follow the guidelines

I halfway agree with you, but I imagine that he posted it here because he knows that the people who could be most helpful on the subject probably don't read the trip reports section very often/at all (and I would assume he's right). Plus, he is asking the question 'Am I crazy?' though indirectly/subconsciously. When it comes to a post as serious as this, I can cut somebody a break for "clogging up" a little message board on a little website on a little planet. Not to mention that naming a topic, "So I tried Heroin!!" is futurespeak for "I'm gonna be a junkie one day, I just don't know it yet."

Or from another perspective, consider the costs at stake. It costs you a few additional seconds to have to wade through the additional misplaced trip reports but it could cost him his life. :\

I understand your point, but in this case [drug] I think special circumstances apply.

diacetyl - you are exactly on the mark and i really, REALLY hope uprising can understand that. sadly, though, as an experienced user of other opioids i can say he probably won't until it's too late and he finds himself on the same one-way street.

have -you- considered iboga? there are some shops that will ship it overseas and if you carefully meter out the dose it has a wonderful side-effect of rebooting your dependency...

the trick is this: do you really want away from the ball and chain? if you don't, you won't be able to quit. if you do, you'll feel relieved when your iboga trip ends and you feel no cravings and have no physical symptoms.

glad the smak hasn't ruined your life; for now i'm in the same sort of boat as you are, though, just not as intensely.

and chinacat - two days in a row of a drug that takes eight hours to eliminate? try more like "not more than twice in as many weeks."

- amar

indeed; sadly i can't do it still. it just makes me too superhuman to use poppy.

you know when i started the poppy i developed a recipe that is now extremely widely used, providing a nice 15 hour high...

now it lasts about half an hour.

fucking tolerance. i even quit for three months. so here i sit, as you'll read in my gigantic post, quitting again haha... and while i'm quitting i find myself wishing i had some diacetyl.

I use opiates about half a dozen times a year without any problems, but that's just me. I don't particularly reccommend it.

it's funny that i can smoke that irregularly but i cannot do any opiate that irregularly... i just do it until it's gone. now that i've a dependency i have to keep having it. since i ran out a couple days ago i've been using the 123-peramide diet.

it's like that guy in the article "confessions of an ebay opium addict" or something like that who says approximately: "even though i've made it through the worst part of the withdrawals, i'm a slave to it and i tear the box apart to get to the pods."

i just can't stop myself from doing opioids until they're gone... percocet, vicodin, darvocet, tramadol, it doesn't matter.

so true. its a picture painted so many times in this forum.

i love your avatar :D

thank you allf or this thread, which i've found the best information as of yet.

i, too, have recently found this drug heroin, and i underestimated its power and fear that it has me by my balls......

but i love it oh soo much

hm

Never was my doc,i'll snort some from time to time. But did it 4 2 monthes straight while in europe.Grade A i might add.and never felt so shitty in my life coming off it.I can even chip off and on for a month. And just never got that "so called ultimate bliss"like some people refer it to.I guess im just 1 of the lucky ones.

you ARE lucky you havn't had the ultimate bliss... ....

i almost wish i hadn't......

i WISH that that previous sentence was true.

systemicTN - i would translate "So I Tried Heroin!!" more into "I'm gonna be a junkie very soon and I do know it but I refuse to allow myself to believe it."

gah... get off the refined opioids and start shifting to natural; it's sustainable.
