Stimulants So I took a Vyvanse, and just took a nap... the f***?

So I've been perscribed 70mg vyvance for a while now, I took a 40mg today about 4 or 5 hours ago after a big meal and I actually SLEPT. I casually woke up a few times, but honestly I have terrible insomnia at times and the fact that I actually slept after taking an amphetamine is terribly shocking...

It's not as if I bought it off some one either, I picked my prescription up as usual from my pharmacy yesterday. I just don't get it hahahaa, I know you build up tolerance and everything but I've been on it for nearly 2 years, also I don't take it everyday and it's been 2 days since I dosed last.
 
I do this a Lot but I am also in mmt I should mention. Tbh I dont get it either. I have Taken Adderall to Get to sleep. Its kinda weird. Its only when im having breathing issues but I remember taking a 10mg xr to get sleep. I really think it just various I find taking supplments before I sleep and then waiting as long as I can then dosing with a cup of coffee to work best. Amphetamines are supposed to relax the mind so its obvious your meds are working but I still think anything but Dexedrine is garbage. I would ask for Dexedrine spansules if I were you it may work a lot better.
 
@bananas it's the first time I've ever actually got rest right after taking one before, I've been on and off vyvance for about 4 or so years now, started at 10mg in my first year of high school to help with attention while goin through a depressive phase after my parents divorced. I've tried aderall before but didn't like it, even though vyvance takes a while to kick in I much prefered the effect over aderal.

I was mostly surprised because I usually have a terribly hard time getting to sleep even when I don't take it, and when I do it's almost impossible to get rest untill it's all out of my system a good 10 or so hours after I've taken it. I even had a small latte before hand too, I thought I was just going to lie down for a bit so the rest was a nice surprise I guess hahaa. I just don't understand how my body actually fell asleep, it wasn't like I was sleep deprived or anything.

As far as dexedrine is concerned, what is it like compared to vyvance? Since I've been on this med for so long with no complaints I'm sure my doc would try me on something new if I asked, but if it's just a d-amphetamine like vyvance I don't see the need to switch. Why do you prefer it?
 
It seems some people have this paradoxical effects from amphetamines, and other stimulants.....I myself feel next to nothing except side effects, but the do keep me awake.......I think people who really have add/adhd are effected differently by stimulants.
 
Isn't it "Vyvanse"? And I thought adderall was taken off the market after the patent expired in 2009 if i'm not mistaken. Is it still prescribed?
 
Adderrall is still widely prescribed. Usually when the patent expires it just means that the original drug company no longer has a monopoly and now generics can jump in and produce it... but I'd have thought the patent expired long before 2009... I'm not familiar with the dating of the drug, it just sounds strange to me because it's been around for so long.
 
Yea man, I have ADD and am prescribed Dexedrine 2x10mg a day and I call fall asleep after a 10mg dose. Actually the 10mg dose CAN make me sleepy in a weird way. Its hard to describe but i'm certain its because of tolerance.
 
Its tolerance and add. If you really got it your body will vary on the effects you get. Its supposed to make you calm so you dont get scattered so unless your feeling scattered its normal. I liked Dexedrine Spansules best. They had something the instant release lacked but Dexedrine in general is best for Me. Compared to Vvyanse its kinda a cleaner faster acting medication. I dunno if anyone has heard about Adderall XL its supposed to last a full 16 hours but they stopped looking into it due to cost. I personally think the best add medication is the stuff doctors get scared to prescribe. In general though napping is normal your not supposed to Feel the medication other than maybe the first hour.


Dexedrine doesnt control your brain thats why its in general a better medication imo and doesnt give you the crappy chest palps Adderall does. Adderall in IR form is basically done for until next year so those of you reading this ask for Dexedrine or Vvyanse if amphetamines work best for you. I heard XR will be restocked and is fine but do not get IR switch asap because you will have to Hunt.

-It is Vyvanse, not "Vyvance".
-Adderall is still widely prescribed. Just because something is off patient and available as a generic doesn't mean its not prescribed anymore.

I'm going to edit the title of this thread to reflect the correct spelling of the drug in question (for easier searching in the future).
 
especially if you do have a dopamine deficiency, sleeping on amphetamines isn't unheard of . in theory, amphetamines should increase presynaptic and synaptic dopamine levels (and synpatic norepinephrine levels) to "normal" in someone who has ADD or ADHD.
 
I just got my Vyvanse refilled three days ago... and i took 2 70mg pills at 6pm... I felt like I had taken too much and it wasn't fun... I walked around the block, and then laid down to try and sleep. I forced myself to focus on sleeping... then BAM! I fell asleep , and I dreamt the most AMAZING lucid dreams all nite! I mean I could control the dream and I was walking through a universe of stars and saw a vision of how beautiful the universe will be when we all die. When I wolk up, I still felt like I had experienced a vision sent by God or perhaps caused by my "in between" sort of state. My ears rang a little bit to upon waking
 
I am prescribed vyvanse and am trying to get my doctor switch to dexedrine, ER or IR I don't care, I have been prescribed to it in the past but by a different doctor. But yeah I do fall asleep and take naps all of the time on the medication. I too, am in MMT but I still in the past could take a nap on it. I have been on the medication for 2 years and before that, a whole slew of amphetamines for adhd since I was 17. I'm 24 now. So It's been a pretty big part of my life. and it affects you daily...

Ya man.... im 25 ... started adderall (for reals anyway) when I was 17... and by then it has a foothold in your life.
 
I don't think its that unusual, especially since you have a tolerance. I've been on Adderall for 2 years and I'm not sure if I have ADD or not (but severe depression for sure). I took Vyvanase for a month and found it to be much less stimulating. You mentioned eating a big meal too so that could make you tired.
 
When u used more than a therapeutic dose of amphetamines over a certain time, eg some hours, and u take another big dose, you start yawning.
Heavy users take it and have a short nap afterwards. that's normal

I can't remember the exact reason...
