I have two footlong san pedro cuttings. I used one to make a san pedro tea. I followed the instructions on erowid. I blended the water and the cactus into a substance, then simmered it in the pot. I stirred often until they combined, the made the temp a little higher. It never reached a slimy consistency, and instead became sort of loose. I still strained it and drank the juice, which was bad. I never experienced any high. What could have gone wrong here? Is there another method to prepare it that has a higher success rate?

The cactus can be a tricky bitch. I've had san Pedro where one foot would be almost too much to bear and from a different cacti 2.5 feet to be nothing.

It's really a crap shoot. The best you can do if find a reliable vendor. Even then, they may choose a cacti that for whatever reason isn't as potent as the previous.

There is also the thing about starving the cactus, depriving it from light etc....

I don't know. But your best bet is to find a great cactus and grow cuttings of it. Buy 3 feet and keep the top foot, grow the rest. And repeat. Worst case scenario you'll have a beautiful cacti garden in a year or two.
