so how does the E2 work then?

E2 is just another reagent.
there are about 14 common drug reagents, which have been used by narcotics police for years now. EZ Test was just the first company to package one of them for sale to the wider community. They chose to package the Marquis reagent, as it gave the best indication of presence of an MDxx like substance.
Chemical Generation have now released another one of these 14, mainly because of the short comings of using only the Marquis.remember that police have always used multiple reagents on the one substance, and cross referenced the results to get the best possible idea of what that substance is. now we can do that by using both EZ and E2.
some chemicals fool one, but nothing (to the best of my knowledge) fools both.
why havent EZ test, or Dancesafe for that matter, released another reagent? well thats the 64,000 dollar question isn't it?
as we are talking about commercial products it would be wrong for me to make guesses. AJ will tell us when he is good and ready. also notice that i haven't identified which reagent Chem Gen have used in E2 (altho you can guess fairly easily).

If it was up to me, it would be out already.
However, I am not in charge, I just maintain the website, administrate sales, do customer service etc. Product development is done by Michael and Ewoud, the EZ founders. There are several reasons why things are so slow. We have a lot of other things to do ;-). We wanted to make sure with pure samples that it worked and getting the pure samples was VERY hard. We finally got them from a Dutch lab though. There are some security issues, the liquid might be dangerous. We wanted to wait for our childproof cap. We think a liquid like Marquis or the new liquid should be safe from small kids. The cap was incredibly hard to find and the minimum order is like $20000. That means we have to make business choices sometimes....We are not rich or something like that ;-)
Anyway, it is finished in such a sense that we are now waiting for the leaflet. I expect it to hit the market in 3-4 weeks.
It won't be like E2 though but it does about the same thing. Note that once it is really out, issues might still arise after a while.

Aj,
When will you guys be taking orders? My E-Z Test has had it. It is old and getting darker and about 80% used. I would like to order one of each test at the same time. Unless the new test makes the old test unnecessary. But I think I would still want to pick up one of the E-Z's because I know it and trust it.

Substances will be about the same. The new EZ will be supplementary, just like E2 (I think E2 looks very much like EZ, wish you guys had chosen another name...). First you have to use good old EZ. If that result is good (purple) you perform the second test. This second test consists of two liquids.
If it goes blue, it is either mdma or mdea.
If it stays clear it is probably mda but definitely not mdma or mdea.
So about the substances question, we have always said "If it goes purple, it is an Ecstasy like substance, if not, it is definitely not an Ecstasy like substance".
We will go on with this 'philosophy'. We will not try to identify what it could be if a different color appears, all we can be SURE of is that it is not an Ecstasy like substance. Same with the new test, if it does not go blue it definitely does not contain mdma or mdea.
We think it is too tricky to start trying to say "With this color it might be.... this or that". We feel much safer saying "With this color it is definitely NOT...this or that".
Hope you understand what I mean.
