Misc Snorting Zofran for Nausea Relief

I have a 4 mg ondansetron here. My friend has been violently vomiting for an hour, due to some undiagnosed chronic condition. The ER treated him like a drug seeking punk and sent him on his way last week during a similar episode when he went. The vomiting comes in bouts while the nausea is constant.

Is there any reason he can't crush up and snort the Zofran? Can it be absorbed intranasally?
 
Since ondansetron is not a drug of abuse, I doubt anywhere has intranasal bioavailability numbers so there's no way to know if it'll work efficiently.
 
Well we're doing it. I can't watch him suffer and he would just throw it up.

This is a far better idea than shooting it right? Shooting pills is horrible, correct?
 
RIGHT.do not shoot it!

Perhaps snorting is the way to go, but seeing as how there's little (no) info on it, it might not be an effective mode of administration (no telling the nasal bioavailability)

Perhaps plug it (in a water solution), or sublingual or nasal, but def dont shoot it
 
Sublingual--good idea. If he starts to vomit its not lost for sure, he can take it out hopefully.

He pansied out and swallowed it, with hopes to keep it down. Its been about 15 minutes since the last time he threw up.

We were all junkies. Smoking tar mostly, he went to shooting. He got clean for months with only bimonthly usage. Two months ago this nausea and vomiting kicked in. He's lost 25 pounds. He's been smoking a lot more dope this week and it hasn't helped or hurt. Of course we don't tell the doctors about the heroin use. They still have no ideas. All tests normal. Diagnosis: drug seeking junkie.

He has no insurance. I don't know what to do.
 
^ Yes it can. When I was in the hospital one time they gave my a zofran tab and told me to let it dissolve under my tougne.
 
Or you can chew and swallow or chew in your mouth and not swallow. There is a slight difference possibly with the physcially smaller pills in this way. On another note, I'd reccomend 8mg.
 
Zofran is made to be used sublingually. They even are cherry flavored, trust me.

Sublingual is meant for this exact situation, when you can't keep it down.
 
I would not snort Zofran - like everyone else said, they're meant to be taken sublingually. Let it dissolve under your tongue. ERs do have an IV form of Zofran if he/she really can't keep anything down.
 
This is a really old thread.

My 2¢ is if it's not quick dissolve, crush it up. Put in a few ml of water. Plug.

Anything orally can be plugged.
 
I've never tried plugging it, but have SL'd it many many times.

Please be courteous and check the dates on threads that you're posting on, I'm not sure how you found that thread, but I am sure that the OP is not still dealing with acute nausea.
