First off, I am completely new here. I hope this is the right place and I say things correctly. If not please feel free to correct me. Thank you!
A good friend of mine and I were having a discussion turned debate and now we need help settling it. It is a harm reduction matter.here is the background information that may or may not matter to the outcome.
Person has been taking roughly 10-15 norcos every morning (at once) for a year. Sometimes a few more here and there as well. Has been abusing them for three or four years total now. Takes 4-6 10mg methadone from time to time When norcos are MIA.
Doesn't really do much of anything else except smoke and drink occasionally. But used to abuse coke many years ago and snorted their share of crystal metha couple of years ago.
Person obviously has an opiate "problem". Decided enough is enough with the opiates for a little bit but opiate wd is terrible for them so they decide to start snorting a little crystal meth occasionally to help mask withdrawal symptoms. Pretty good stuff but person doesnt feel as good as they used to on it. Worked good on day one but since then Still feel slow, unmotivated, very weak, grumpy, don't want to do anything, , antisocial (which it tends to do anyway but not as bad as now), etc. Even after a full nights sleep and eating. Person isn't exactly sure why. Almost feels like they are stuck at a perpetual state of come down, the end stage type stuff.
Here is my theory....
Body is in such a big WD state that the meth is having to combat that and its just not acting as it should. If that makes sense??
Now... my friend says to me, couldn't they just take a methadone or two to help with the opiate wd therefore getting what they are llooking for, or closer to it anyway, from snorting the crystal meth? (Norco isn't available)
As a healthcare professional I see the upper/downer mix as confusing and detrimental for the heart. But, as a short term small doseage thing for a few days? I'm not sure they would suffer much permanent damage from it. I've searced everywhere for a long time today and I can't find anything. In theory it sounds good to me but I also don't want the person to hit the floor doing the crappie flop just because they did it the once.
Does anyone have any information on this? We'd like to know so we can educate this person and maybe avoid a huge disaster (we are aware there is a risk involved either way... just want to know how serious of one.... like is there a huge known issue with it that has a history of killing folks the first time or two). Methadone is scary to me so I just want to be sure.
Thank you for any input or advice you have to offer. Remember, the meth is in really small amounts (bump here or there through tue day always only snorted)
