Another one without sellotape in "reasonable condition" was going for £225 I think. On discogs.com it shows others over the last 3-4 years have gone for £200-300 ... wait just looked, there are others £125ish but plenty go for more.

I've just looked it up & there are indeed ways of removing sellotape without damaging the sleeves. I'm almost certain I've got an absolute bargain. :)

I'm almost certain I could still buy it from a second hand record shop for under a tenner. It's not even a rare record so seems vastly overpriced to me. Maybe lots got turned into Blue Peter ashtrays over the last decade or so pushing the price up? Meh. As long as you're happy with your purchase that's all that matters really :)
 
^^ I've no doubt it's possible if you get lucky!

I think the thing that makes it expensive is being a 1st press & usually the fact they are in good condition. Ones in record stores tend to have frayed edges on sleeves & rips. My Dad has some original Beatles LPs in mint condition... I can't remember how much they are worth but a lot.

The Snoo is really acquiring an original Jimi Hendrix rather than the cost of the thing!
 
Most of my 60s records were original pressings and none cost me more than a fiver. That was 20 years back admittedly. The prices for those self-same records listed in collector's magazines were exponentially higher and I never could see why. I think what some people consider to be mint condition is way beyond what I would consider mint condition to justify such a difference in price. I bought them to listen to rather than as an investment so was mainly interested in there being no scratches that affected playing rather than surface scratches which are but aesthetic. I'm sure a collector would have different priorities but I've never really understood collecting vinyl that you can't actually play for fear of affecting the value.

I did own a number of original KLF records which were worth a lot but that was mainly cos they'd mostly been deleted and indeed collectively destroyed by the band themselves so were genuinely hard to get hold of.
 
I'd agree it does seem silly.

I don't actually own an LP player, but I would play the record if I could.

I might well acquire one as I will be inheriting my Dad's collection when he caves in & gives them to me. My Parent's are moving house soon but my Mum just dashed any hopes - she told me they are going with them. :!

yeh, some things go right up while others devalue. much of my collection is too random and obscure (and in bad condition ) for me to cash in. my bro accused me of selling my records a while back. well so what if I had? I have to get them back into order coz I do have some nice ones. on another note, what a beautiful spring we are having. my forget me nots in the garden look fab but I don't see any fox gloves comin up. I must also go out with some somni seeds. can't believe we're half way thru april. off to Ireland on weds .. hooray!

I'll delete that if you like, btw. Though if it helps, I'm from Withington, Manchester. Near the Didsbury border. Left at Christie's hospital if you're coming from town, right if you're coming from Stockport.

One of my big regrets from junkydom is selling my entire record collection for the price of a few bags. Not even very many bags. Aside from the fact it was worth rather a lot if sold off in the right situation (which was never something that interested me cos...) it was losing the records themselves that bothered me. I <3'd my vinyl. It's just not the same on other formats. Mainly for the artwork and packaging. I've seen a few CDs over the years that have experimented with unusual packaging and design but the vast majority are just crappy plastic boxes and tiny artwork inserts. Really not the same at all. I always did find CDs to be overpriced compared to the vinyl versions - you get much more for your money with vinyl and you also tend to treasure it and look after it which isn't really an issue with CDs cos they're so disposable. Both may be but plastic and card but only one is an object of desire.

You also reminded me I too need to go forth and scatter my seed. Also poppy seed.
