Sniffer dogs

^^^ as you have already been told, dog arent trained to sniff out legit pharms, however the handler and dog are trained to identify nervous dudes who may have something in their pocket which they aren't entitled to!

anyway, who clubs with benzos?

I would very highly doubt that you will be caught out for a prescription medicine.

I personally know a fellow that works in customs and I decided to test his dog the other day:

I had a ten pack of pills inside a baggy, which was inside another baggy with ginger powder inside and was dusted on the outside with powder. I also had one pill inside my coin pocket. Inside my back pack I had a gram of speed and a Q of weed wrapped in foil in a baggy with a bit of ginger powder dusted on the outside of the bag.

Results:
Dog went straight for my bag but was not interested in me at all.
Ten pack with ginger powder concealed in my pants was not found.
single pill with no masking was not found. (Note I know these pills were very clean, I know the cook)
Weed was found and the speed was found.

So basically the dog did not smell anything on my person not even the pill that was just in my pocket. I was wearing some cologne and a fair bit of deoderant too.

Anyway just though you guys might be interested in hearing this.

Well if you had two sources of odour, one much stronger than the other, it's kind of obvious which one the dog will go for isn't it?

There's no guarantee you won't be the strongest source of odour when you put the dogs to the test for real, your test doesn't say a whole lot except that a G of speed and a Q of weed smells a lot worse than 10 pills (who'd have thought?).

I'm sorry but i do find this all relatively hard to believe. Knowing a customs officer who allowed the use of his dog for your experiment seems a bit strange. I wouldn't mention knowing the "cook" on this website as law enforcement visits here often. I am not doubting you but just find it hard to believe and very odd you are able to carry out this. I would question the so called customs "person" you know. I hate seeing corrupt people in that industry.

Well believe me or don't it doesn't really matter.

And yeah i took the bag away after he found that and he still didn't find anything on me with the weed and speed gone so yeah.

And as for corruption in these industries, yes it fucking sucks, but it happens so meh. May as well take advantage of the opportunity.

All this discussion in what dogs can smell.

Dogs can smell anything they are trained to sniff.

The question is what do general purpose police dogs sniff? A: People Ie tracking people from a stolen car/burglary etc. These dogs are used in public disorder etc as well. Just look at the info on your states police web site. The dogs are normally German Shepherds or Belgian Shepherd (malinois). These dogs are normally found to be working in the Prison System as well as the Military.

Police Drug dogs are trained to sniff? A: Drugs, ie your main drugs. They train to sniff all the main drugs in society. These dogs are normally labs. They would not waste time, effort and money to train a drug to sniff out benzo's etc. Why would they do that. It takes years of work to train dogs, why would they train them to sniff out valium.

Customs have dogs also. They have drug dogs, dogs who can sniff bombs, they are also trained to smell firearms ie gun powder.

I know there are dogs in the US and Canada who are trained to smell large amounts of money. Yes that sounds crazy but thats what they do.

There is heaps of information of the net about tracker dog/police dogs/customs dogs and even information on how they train these dogs. These videos are even on youtube.

Lol @ Tripman is all I got to say.

On a more serious note, like filenet pretty much said, a big part of illict drug detection is the interaction between the 'target' and the dog/handler. The handled is only taking queues from the dog. But also your reaction(s) to the dogs presents. So basically even if what you have isn't illegal to have, if you're looking sus they will pick up on this. If you have prescription drugs on you with no proof that the drug is actually prescribe for you, would you be required to show proof?

Good post Big B btw. :)

I would question the so called customs "person" you know. I hate seeing corrupt people in that industry.

I'm curious as to why you hate all corrupt people in that particular industry, especially as they can play a major part in importing substances such as MDMA... With a few more corrupt Customs officers we might actually get a few more decent pills around here.

Sniiffer dogs are basically the dogs that love playing fetch, that is all they are doing when sniffing out drugs, bombs, food etc.... That is why they are given a toy/ball when they find what they sniff, in there eyes they are sniffing out the ball. In training the ball is laced with the substance they are training them with, this can be particular drugs, explosives etc . . . .
So if the substance has an odour a dog can detect, they can easily be selectively trained to detect it. (also 'sometimes' dogs are allowed some of the substance in training, not a nice method, but can increase there desire).

A friend had a couple of "E" pills in some plastic wrap in his mouth (in the lower back gum area) and the dogs didn't even take a second sniff/glance. ;)

Do I smell bacon in the above post? Hi officer, I shall carry my "ecstasy" pills in my mouth from now on.

^^^ Haha m3bmw.

@alanzs: I wouldn't call this "a trick". Maybe have a read over the last 27 pages - no one's gonna (or shouldn't :S ) put their "e" in their mouth.

Actually, if m3bmw if right, alanzs please don't read over the last 27 pages.

There are worse places, there are better too.

I dunno if I could pull off talking to a cop with a few pills in my mouth. Especially the size of the local ones lately.

I've never had to talk to a cop or anything at a festival so I wouldn't know.
My friends have got some niffy ideas though, and they always seem to work no matter how ridiculous they are

I think you'll find most people who get drugs in get them in using simple methods. However this isn't as safe.

I mean if the dogs sit at your feet and the cop starts asking if you have drugs on you and youve got a few pills in your mouth, might not be so fun.

Yeah I might have to rethink my ways, although that said I haven't seen a sniffer dog in recent memory since I was flying internationally several years ago...:\
