smoking wisdom teeth removal

ok...so they told me if i smoke, i'll get dry-sockets....and i hear thats painful, but is it like 100%? if i keep gaws over the holes as i smoke will that help? cuz i aint waiting no week...and..hell, i only made it 8 hours..
dont know if this is the correct forum for this question but i really need so know/smoke
 
After I had my wisdom teeth removed (all four of them!) a dECADE ago I still wasnt smoking regularly so I cant tell you for sure ;) But when I had my root canal two years ago twice, I refrained from smoking for about a week even if the cavity was sealed shut . I can only surmise that after having wisdom teeth removed there is a GAPING hole there, so GP i best advice you not to smoke for a while...or if in case you cant take it anymore, brush your teeth right after you smoke. (Can you do this? I used to have this handy plunger, sort of like a water pik that I used to clean my gums after extraction. )
If that hurts too much for you to do, than dont smoke . ;) Im sure you can sacrifice this once!
 
^^of course it is, its a necessary procedure especially when you have impacted molars....ergo, the wisdom tooth is pushing up against all your other teeth because of lack of space in the back. I dont think everybody needs to have it removed tho if its not impacted.
 
well im told "dry sockets" is like when air gets in trapped in that hole..they said they sewed it shut, but i guess the suction can still get air in there, i've just been doing what i did with my tongue piercing and cracking the side of my mouth to alleiviate pressure
 
im told a dry socket is like the worst pain ever...but the chick telling me this is kinda over dramatic so im not sure if i can trust that completely

dental pain is the worst pain imo

im a person hardly ever bothered by pain but when its those nerves it puts me in the same state amphetamine would (unable to sleep , very irritated)
 
I had my wisdom teeth pulled 2 years ago, the bottom two were impacted so they had to cut into the gum. The top two were a simple extraction. They tell you not to drink through a straw/suck on anything or spit for a few days as the pressure can rip out the stitches. Of course it didn't help that the morning after I threw up upon trying to drink something.

I could hardly open my mouth for 3 or 4 days (maybe 5mm between upper and lower teeth), so solid food was a no go I subsisted on ensure plus (not a fan of soup). I have no idea how you'd smoke a cigarette in this condition barring pinching a nostril shut and inhaling through the other.

The holes fill within a week or two. I had to dig out food from the lower two with a toothpick (fun times). Try using a patch for a week, I wouldn't recommend smoking or the gum.
 
Dont a friends did and he was in alot of pain, they gave hime some tylonal 3s for the pain.
 
i just got mine out and said fuck it, and have been smoking cigs everyday since friday when I got them out, don't feel any pain

Just wait, especially if you continue smoking, you're in for a treat :( I haven't experienced this but I've heard it's horrible so good luck.

I can tell you from personal experiance, without over dramatizing, it is QUITE painful. Im sure there can be worse pain..but yeah it sucks pretty bad.
 
dude, the day of my surgery it was blunt after blunt. I even smoked packs of cigs, never got a dry socket. But I do not condone this for harm reduction purposes. Nah Mean, good luck peace.
 
I've had my wisdom teeth out, over 2 months ago, and those gaping holes have not disappeared YET! grrrr

the water plunger after every meal, to get food out, is irritating as all the fuck. But luckily, I never got the dry socket.

I elected for the "pain-relieving gause" for about 1-2 weeks after the surgery, and that keeps food out, prevents dry-socket, and relieves minor imflammation. I would recommend that.

take it easy on the puffs... I could FEEL the strain I was putting back there, with every pull on that cigarette. straws too...

just take it easy.

but my dentist always told me, that if and when I got dry socket, they have some hella pain killers for it. =D

A buddy of mine got all 4 of his wisdom teeth removed and EVERY ONE turned into a dry socket. He said it really really sucked, and I tend to believe him. I personally am getting mine out in a few weeks. I'm fairly sure my parents (I'm 17) won't give me any painkillers because they know I've abused them before and really enjoy opiates. My solution is going to be my Hookah. I'll just use the hose on and and smoke through my nose!
