I just smoked a joint and I have a dentist appointment in 5 hours, and i plan on getting nitrous oxide. Would this have any negative effects mixing n2o and the remnants of a high?

No but you shouldn't do drugs prior to a dentist appointment.

Your nerves are sedated by the marijuana. The anesthesia won't work as good as if you were sober. Not a good thing.

How would my nerves being sedated make the novocaine weaker? You'd think sedated nerves would aide the pain killing

There's competition between novocaine and marijuana so the last one should'nt be taken before a dental surgery.

Brush your teeth before you go! Don't make your dentist poke around in your resiny mouth.

Smoked martijuana usually wears off after a maximum of 4 hours. And it doesn't compete with novocaine (a sodium channel blocker) or nitrous oxide (dissociative), so you should be fine.

loulou you seem like a decent enough person from the handful of posts i've seen you make around the site.

But don't just make suff up to scare people lol.

This is complete bullshit, this is a harm reduction site, not a scare you away site.

As said before, remember to brush/do mouthwash before, just so you won't have to worry about the smell at all. I've gone to the dentist baked plenty of times, though depending on whats all being done, can either make it fun or dragg on.

Sorry I didn't mean to scare anyone. I said that because I experienced it myself.

When the dentist shot me up with a quite impressive syringe, it didn't work, when he commenced to work on my tooth it was quite painful.

I just had smoked a joint in the morning.

The next appointment was fine because I didn't smoke the stuff 4 hours before.

Sorry again if I scared anyone, just some first hand experience.

fwiw, I deliberately mix cannabis and nitrous all the time, and it treats me just fine.

i loved the weed + nitrous combo!! i love nitrous in generall lmao...but i also like to add some nyquil before i go..i usually take 1-2 of them so thats like 325-500mg apa + 15-30mg DXM + 12.5-25mgs doxylamine succinate before i go to the dentist and i always feel really trippy... i can still feel them fuckign around in my mouth, but im just always so far away that it doesnt really hurt and i can barely form words hahaha

You'll be fine. Cannabis does not contain any psychoactives that compete with channel blocking drugs, nor should it lessen the effects in any way.

^ It depends on what you mean by "interact".
It can certainly strengthen psychedelic experiences radically, for example.

But, to the OP, if it were me, I would never, ever want to be high to experience the dentist's chair.
The suffering would be heightened considerably by the weed high.

I don't see it being a problem unless weed increases your anxiety. The combo of cannabis, nitrous, and lidocaine (novocaine isn't used anymore) should be fine.

For the poster who said you weren't numb from a single injection, it happens sometimes... Dentists use landmarks for proper administration of anesthesia but there are anatomical variations that make it difficult to achieve profound anesthesia 100% of the time with just one injection.

Never. I made this mistake back in my younger years. Thinking weed enhanced everything. The second i remember i have to keep my kottonmouth ridden mouth open for an extended period of time, i wanted out right away.

I meant it in the pharmacological sense when referring to a drug.

I believe cannabis does not interact with any drug, full stop. That's not to say it mixes well with everything though, which is basically the point you were making.

In essence, you can mix it with pretty much any pharmacological drug and not worry about adverse interactions such as if you were to mix a stimulant like amphetamine with an MAOI. That's what's so great about cannabis - the safety profile of the drug is phenomenal - unlike many other rec. drugs. This safety profile is what accounts for the lack of any deaths attributed to cannabis (ignoring accidents and suicide obviously).

Nitrous oxide as a matter of fact is another one of these drugs that doesn't interact with other drugs as far as I'm aware. I might be wrong about that though, if my memory is failing me.

Waiting in an un naturally well lit room surrounded by strangers with nothing to do/read/look at for an extened period of time sucks to begin with, all weeds gonna do is make it feel like even longer!

Then you have to deal with some asshole poking round in your mouth, or in my case trying to take a tooth out fucking it up and getting blood everywhere. Nothing scarier when your high than blood dripping from your mouth and the dentist saying 'oops'

This is bullshit, novocaine acts by inhibiting sodium influx through voltage gated sodium channels in the neuronal cell membrane of peripheral nerves. Cannabis acts centrally through the endocannabinoid system, they don't "compete" (whatever that means) at all.

Anyways, this claim is spurious. Provide a reference if you care to back up your claim, but I'm calling bullshit.

It's time for a new dentist! No reason you should feel your dentist is an asshole especially when this person is working on you up close and personal.
