Smoking too much, then bad mental health, and then starting up again? Opinions?

So I quit weed a while ago. It had started to mess badly with my mental health. As I kept on smoking (trying to soke through it) my mental health continued to decline and I began to get panic attacks whenever I smoked it. I have been off of it for a while and after 2 months or so I am feeling much better. If I were to smoke a bowl after like 2 more months of being sober and feeling normal again, do you think I would end up getting a panic attack again? From personal experiene what would you say? Were the panic attacks a result of my temporary poor mental health or just changing personality/chemicals? Cuz i really enjoyed the high i used to get and would like to have it again on a more occasional basis.

depends on what you call a panic attack? when i smoke a lot over a period of time, i start getting uncomfortable with my thoghts while being high, my pulse beat gets faster but usually i can manage this and consciously make it go away (eg with breathing technique). i never had a "real" panic attack, so i don't know about that, but i wouldn't wanna take the risk. i usually take a break or lower the frequence of getting high when i fell the need for it.
if you were to do it again, then i'd say only in a comfortable setting, preferably with someone you trust and only a tiny amount of green. weed is a psychedelic after all, even if it goes well with daily life...

Good chance you will, maybe you won't get one, but I think it eventually does get to you.

I was in a similar position and after about a year tried it..had a panic attack.

Smoked a little spec of a hit...anything more then that, you guessed it anxiety.

2 months is a short time when it comes to mental health issues, but your tolerance will drop so much that if you smoke a full bowl or perhaps even a half a bowl, you're very likely to get anxiety I'd say. If you can keep it at one small toke occasionally (it will get you pretty damn high) and not go the daily route again, you should be fine when it comes to mental health. Be careful not to start smoking too often again if it's making you go mental.

Well when i was on the daily route, i would get the occasional anxiety that would creep up on me and just make me feel uncomfortable, but as time passed i started getting these attacks where i would be uneasy and then suddenly DROP into a panic/anxiety attack where my pulse is going FAST and out of control and my brain wasn't able to think at all. you said that your anxiety was caused by paranoid thoughts, etc, but my anxiety was more physical than that. it just came out of the blue. there was no string of negative thoughts leading to or during the anxiety. nothing. couldn't even attempt to think my way out of it, brain was fucked.

I think it was just the good old ganja psychosis from someone with sensitive brain chemistry over-doing it and the panic attacks were just my messed up brain reacting to the weed. or at least like to think in hopes of somewhat reuniting with mary jane later in the year once i fully recover.

I am aware that my tolerance would also go back to normal and i'd get high as hell if i were to take even one hit. when i first started smoking i got completely blitzed, but my body and brain just went with it and i enjoyed the hell out of it. I like to think when i start up again and OCCASIONALLY smoke i will get this same effect, but idk.

just some more information you probably dont wanna read :p. just like to figure it out is all.

Horrible advice...mental health is a horrible thing to risk.

Only you can figure it out on your own but it sucks being in the position been there and done that.

I'm kinda wishy washy with it, I'd love to smoke but idk if its worth it.

in many cases there is some underlying issue driving the anxiety. If you figure out what it is and work on it and go back to occasionally smoking very small doses of an indica strain i think you can enjoy it again. I'm one of those people who smoke through their issues and it's worked somewhat but i am now very anxious from not dealing with the underlying issues issues in the past and unfortunately they finally caught up with me. So sort out anything that is bothering you and when you feel okay again (this can take months to years) give it a shot and if it really doesn't react well with you then it's a good time to give it up.

You could maybe take something to calm you down when you smoke.. I have tranquizilers/benzos but of course I wouldn't recommend you get into the habit of taking those, but still, just the assurance of having them to hand can prevent panic attacks as you know you can chill out quickly if you do have one. I find taking tranquizilers though while smoking weed when I'm not anxious or panicky takes the high off the weed somewhat.

I just gave up smoking because its too hard on my lungs and so I started making cannabis chocolate instead..the high is the same, if not better.. maybe you could try eating it and see if that still makes you panicky.

One other thing too..I expect someone else has already mentioned this... a lot of street weed has chemicals in it.. I'm guessing but I'd say there's a good chance some of those could bring on a panic attack.. If you're always getting it from the same source, try a different supplier. Perhaps one off silkroad where you can find a home grower if you can't find nothing local.

If you're getting anxiety or panic attacks while stoned and don't like getting high or the effects of herb, why use cannabis then? Or maybe you are smoking way too much when you smoke? Does it happen even when you just take a single hit?

I'm saying this from the perspective of someone who has had issues with anxiety and panic both while completely sober and sometimes while high and smoking pot was not helping so I took a temporary hiatus while I got help for anxiety and panic attacks. At the time in my life when I was like that I was having a lot of issues and using drugs wouldn't have helped so I temporarily stopped all drug use including drinking.

I'm not saying you have to quit smoking herb or using all drugs forever, it's just temporary and yes you eventually can start to smoke herb again. I went from having daily panic attacks and anxiety, then getting help for panic/anxiety issues, to eventually smoking herb on weekends to smoking daily without getting any anxiety or panic at all.

Then there are people who find that smoking herb makes them anxious, gives them panic attacks, or makes them paranoid and they either don't smoke it or just smoke on special occasions when with friends or when at home, and they avoid Sativas or the types or strains of herb that give them panic, anxiety, or paranoia.

Good luck.
