Smoking heroin vs. Slamming

So I've tried doing some research elsewhere. But, to no avail. I can't find what i'm looking form. I've searched this site as well.

I'm wanting to know the difference in withdrawal effects. Personally, i've only been strung out by smoking it. Never from slamming. I have slammed, but not regularly. But thats besides the point. I want to know if its worse kicking from smoking or slamming.

Majority of people would probably say slamming just because of the stigma that goes along with it and everything. But i've heard smoking makes you feel worse, and for longer. Kind of the opposite of what you might THINK it would be. If that makes sense.

I've also "heard" that when you smoke it, it "gets into your bones" or something to that effect.

I apologize if this is horribly written or whatever. I'm a n00b. Get over it. Any information or input would be appreciated! Thanks!

The withdrawal symptoms you would expect from heroin, are going to be the same, no matter what method. Both are entering your body.

I will comment though that at least for me, when I snort around 3-4 bags daily for 1 week verses shooting 3-4 bags daily for 1 week, the effects from the IV seem to come on quicker and are a little more intensified.

I believe this is due to the body absorbing 100% of the drug directly into the bloodstream and with snorting maybe some was lost entering the body....etc etc.

So basically I think that the intensity of the withdrawal will depend on the method of admin., and how much used, but heroin withdrawal is heroin withdrawal....the symptoms will be the same.

In my Suboxone pamphlet it says that it's believed that the level of euphoria brought on by your opiate of choice is somehow related to the intensity of withdrawal. I've never successfully smoked Heroin (I've tried, couldn't get the method down), but I have banged it and I have to imagine IVing provides more euphoria. I would think an IV habit would bring on worse withdrawals than a smoker's habit would.. I'm sure it is no fucking walk in the park though.

^wierd, for me (and this is just an example) methadone withdrawl is far worse then heroin withdrawl but i get little to no euphoria from methadone, especially when compared to heroin.

OP, as said above heroin withdrawl symptoms will be the same with any ROA, but intensity and duration can differ, also depends on how much your useing. withdrawl from smoking can deffinetly be just as bad as iv withdrawl, or vice versa.

The pamphlet was for Suboxone I imagine that most people using Subs for maintenance are getting off OC, heroin, dilaudid, or fent. They probably were'nt thinking "does this apply to meth addicts too?" when they were making the pamphlet. Methadone is probably the exception cause it's obviously not as euphoric as most other opiates and it's completely synthetic (damn Nazi death pills!) so its an "exception" in itself. The fact methadone puts so much active chemical (most "addicts" probably need over 60mg a day) into your bloodstream (with a very long half life) is why withdrawal from it is so bad.

As for w/d w/ smoking heroin, I never smoked enough to get w/d from it but 2 people I know messed up their lives pretty good just by smoking it. They had worse w/d than I've ever had IVing it; although they were smoking at least 3 bags a day where I usually didn't slam more than 1. Smoking is a pretty damn good ROA for tar at least. Better than snorting and plugging (melted down in water) IMO. I saw a dude on Intervention who was addicted to smoking tar and he looked like he had it much worse than a lot of IVers I know!

Yup. Active doses being equivalent, the WD's will be the same.

The reason people would say IV produces worse wd's is due to its high BA. So when you shoot a bag vs smoke a bag, you'll be getting more of the active drug in you. Therefore, you'll be wd'ing from a larger dose if you're coming off of a 1bag IV habit vs a 1bag smoking habit.

Bingo, you hit the nail on the head here, as usual phrozen.

People have to realize that IV, you're obviously using "MORE" because your body is getting more of the drug, therefore your habit increases quicker.... also the WDs will be worse.......

I agree with the principle. But it's possible that someone snorts shitloads more bags than someone injecting.

Smoking is how I got introduced to heroin on the west coast. It was my only roa for the 1st 3 years, Iv since changed to IV.

Actualy the WDs were longer from the smoking habbit than from IV. They were both bad, but it just seemed like it took alot longer to return back to normal after the smoking habbit.

damn, thats weird to hear the smoking detox for people has been worse and/or longer than IV detox.

I've only sniffed and injected heroin. The bugs weren't under my skin as intensely detoxing frmom sniffing than detoxing when injecting. Never smoked it...

the explanation made me moan in pleasure ;)
right on. But then, there are people who think the psychological part is much harder than the pysical one, and these people will WD worse when they get more euphoria out of it, the pleasure. Especially with a short habbit!

Methadone w/d's are def worse. It's due to half life. And yes I.V. withdrawl is worse.

i never got into smoking it since most of the dope around here is powder, but as far as snorting it or shooting it, WD from IV is worse just because it seems to come on way faster. WD from taking it intranasaly is bad too, but it seems like it gets slowly worse over time, where IV comes on fast and hard.

i remember being able to go about 24 hours while snorting before i got really sick. IV it would take me about 12 hours till i was sick, at 24 hours i was full on.

any way you cut it, it sucks.

Maybe its related to the length of the high from the ROA.
duration of high from smoking > duration of high from slamming
(obviously, intensity of high is the opposite)

At least I've noticed that. Shooting vs. smoking, the high would wear off way quicker when I was shooting (speaking of equivalent doses)

If you know calculus, I see if as an integral. The area under the curve is the same, but its either a high peak (y-axis) and short duration(x-axis) [slamming it], or the opposite, the peak is lower but the duration is longer [smoking it]. I've always thought of most drug ROAs in that way, but never said it to anyone before, because I thought it would make me seem like a total nerd [Now that I think of it, it makes sense pharmacologically as that is the concept behind measuring the AUC of a drug (AUC = area under the curve)]

I've never injected nothing nor have I tried heroin. But injections (in general) are more intense HOWEVER, they don't last as long as other MOA, such as oral, snorted or even smoked. Which is why smoking it probably lasted longer.

Injections, although the most effective in terms of effects and that 100% of the drug is being absorbed, also wear off the quickest when compared to oral or snorted.

Am I the only person thinking "uuuh... IV, duh?" Am I missing something here?

Tolerance develops much quicker with IVing, and as such the progression towards and during addiction is markedly larger between each marginal dose added before you detox your system and take a break.

Of course IV is much worse. Do a search on "should I inject heroin?" type threads (usually closed or short lived because so many are made) and you'll see a plethora of responses outlining how IV is worse in regards to addiction development.

Damn, either I missed something crucial or I'm amazed I'm the first to say this.

ditto. big time. my timing was identical.

You lose that euphoria faster shooting than you do smoking; a few weeks with a needle and it becomes medicine to keep you going while smoking you can maintain the high for months, although tolerance will still increase. When switching from dope to suboxone, immediate withdrawal symptoms ended sooner after shooting than they did after smoking by about half a day. Its probably subjective, but the euphoria factor makes the most sense to me.

Having never used heroin in any form, I know that I don't have any first hand knowledge of what it or withdrawal actually feels like; but this is something that I remembered when I read this thread:

Smoking:
Smoked or inhaled drugs enter the lungs and are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream through tiny vessels lining the air sacs. Smoke is created when a material is vaporized under heat to form a gas. As the gas spreads into the cooler surrounding air, it condenses into microscopic liquid droplets. Because of the very small size of the droplets, much smaller than dust particles, inhaled smoke continues all the way to the lung air sacs, where it comes into contact with the bloodstream and is quickly absorbed. Blood from the lungs continues to the heart and some of it is pumped directly to the brain.
Time to brain: 7 to 10 seconds.

Injecting:
This is the most direct way to take a drug, but surprisingly not as fast as smoking. If the drug is injected into a vein, the blood first returns to the right side of the heart. It is then pumped to the lungs, returned to the left side of the heart, and then pumped to the brain.
Time to brain:15 to 30 seconds

[Taken from Illegal Drugs by PaulM. Gahlinger, M.D., Ph.D.]

However, on the flip side:

"The most potent form of ingestion is intravenous injection. The effect of the drug is almost immediate, whereas the effects of smoking or sniffing heroin usually occur within several minutes of inhalation and are milder."

[From Heroin by Humberto Fernandez]

Theoretically, the first point explains why smoked meth is more addictive than injected- yet because a threshold dose for meth is smaller than heroin, smoking heroin isn't as easy and injecting it just makes more sense (from what I understand). However, the second point seems to indicate that the opposite is true.

[Everything in this post is pure scientific speculation- I can't draw any conclusions because I don't have any first-hand knowledge.]
