I work at a doctor's office doing a research study, and while there.. I see people from all walks of life.. and in all conditions of health. Yesterday I saw something I'd never seen before. It was frightening and upsetting.. yet uplifting at the same time.
Doors swing open into the dark that you've
Come to know all too well as those paid
To care hustle and move with precision
Going through the motions, just another day
White covers you and shields your
Fragile fram from the elements that
Once brough you life, another time..
When you smiled in the sun
I can't seem to look you in the eye
As the strength you've amassed, the will
That keeps you fighting forces my eyes down
Fixated firmly to the perfect grooves
Of the ground below
Your face, wrinkled and weathered by time
Finds itself in peaceful expression
And I wonder if your peacefulness is
But a facade, enduced by chemical bliss
Or maybe true joy that you've made it this far
And that's all that matters to you
I stand idly by and watch as you are
Wheeled away and wonder how much longer
You feel this can continue, because I know
If our roles were reversed
I would've given up long ago
I'm left here holding my youth
In hope that one day I won't find myself
Out of control, trying to find a reason
To smile in the sun.
