Smart people are people who ...

have a well organized dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.

now, wise people... that's another thing entirely.

...ask questions...

Smart people ask questions when they dont know the answer.
Stupid people are the ones that dont bother asking or pretend that they know.

a smart person, normally realizes how stupid they really are.

No matter what field of expertise you may excel in, no matter how intelligent and talented you may be in that field... you are very very aware ..and even self conscious to a degree, of how much you don't know..
"Do not worry about your problems with mathematics, I assure you mine are far greater." - albert einstein :)

Smart people are people who constantly question themselves and "reality" and know the real answers will never be known. All that is left is to improve oneself through virtues such as;
* Gratitude
* Patience
* Generosity
* Honesty
* Charity
* Compassion
* Faith in Self and/or God
* Love of Self and others
* Respect for others and self
* Humility
* Forgiveness & Acceptance - releasing anger, releasing past attachments & pain
* Subtlety in any form
* Acceptance/Tolerance
* nonviolence
* Reverence for all sentient beings
* Reverence for nature and our environment
* Practice what you preach - walk your talk
* Providing space / time for others
* Overcoming fear, lower desire, temptation, and delusion

And they realize the hidden dangers of Empiricism(the application of empirical methods in any art or science) and Altruism(the quality of unselfish concern for the welfare of others) and how they can be tools of anti-knowledge and enslavement.

Just my .38 cents worth

Believe in this :
***There is nothing fundamentally good, nor anything fundamentally evil, everything is relative, relative to our point of view. This point once established, it is extremely possible that something, perfectly indifferent in itself, may be indeed distasteful in your eyes, but may be most delicious in mine; and immediately i find it pleasing, immediately i find it amusing., regardless of our inability to agree in assigning a character to it, should i not be a fool to deprive myself of it merely because you condemn it?"*** ~ Marquise de Sade

Smart people are people who...

  • ...value experience over the word of another
  • ...realise just how little any one person can understand
  • ...know that the majority isn't always right
  • ...know that they themselves aren't always right
  • ...know that the first person they ask about a topic they realise they're not right about isn't necessarily right either
  • ...realise that regardless of what they say around people fixated on a certain viewpoint, regardless of what that viewpoint is (religious, moral or what-have-you) or how correct it is, they are extremely unlikely to change their beliefs.
  • ...
  • ...will go to bed when they realise it's late and they have to be up in the morning (goodnight!)

.. are people who accept in all likelihood everything they believe, in terms of morality, history, politics, memory, friends, family, other people, the concept of existence, their personal values and personal experiences; everything will one day potentially be proven completely and utterly wrong. And all you can do is laugh:)

Go over near a co-workers desk that your not fond of and let their farts out slowly and silently, then IMMEDIATELY evacuate the area so it looks like someone else did it. See. Betcha never thought of that.

....post pictures of themselves in the process of taking illegal drugs on the internet.
