Partying socially ever seem worth trouble than it's worth to you?
Made an uncommon break from my hermitage and went to a buddy's last night. Brought a little bit of party for myself, plus a bit to share. There's a new to me feller there, mostly alright, but he does two things constantly that ruin any enjoyment for me.
For the lesser of the two grievances, the main thing he wants to talk about is how much everyone can do/has done/wants, specifically bragging about how much he can handle. This always makes my inner parent want out for a lecture, but I get that that's a me problem and I'd be both killing the mood and wasting my breath
. Figured I'd just leave a little sooner if the topic didn't change, but before too long number grievance number two starts.
Anyone here ever meet someone who is absolutely adamant about sharing their gear? I politely decline pretty much all offers. I'm stringent about limiting my fun, and anal retentive about testing what I use. There's only one buddy I'll take up an offer from because I know he tests too. It blew buddy's mind when I turned down one of the two absolute train tracks he'd put out.. Responses started with sales pitch "no serious it's the best shit you ever tried" to my post's title "what's the point in partying if you've gotta be a pussy about it" and even a guilt trip attempt "seriously if you don't take one I'm stuck doing both right now". That last bit of stupid was where I had to pack er in. Said my goodbyes and still gave a friendly 'nice to meet ya'.
Wasn't the absolute most aggressive person I've seen act like this. That honor goes to a young gentleman who actually jumped on a guy for saying his gear was shit... In fact other than the ego and weird pushiness, buddy was a friendly and happy guy. Great to talk to the few times the topic wasn't frat like... But it felt like if there was an equivalent to a keg stand he'd be hollering for it, just ruined my night. I did text the friend that invited me this morning, I'd rather not be there with the new guy on a gear night. Apparently the bragging got to more than just me.
Any thoughts on why buddy was so insistent? Pretty sure my age bracket is WELL passed the "cool" peer pressure stage. I might get it if he sold, but I know he doesn't.
Anyways, thanks to anyone who decided to read through my vent. Cheers and God bless!
