Well i am kinda worried about my heart stopping on heroin. People say that opiates or it might just be heroin slows down your heart so oi wanna know if i need to move around a do sumthing when i am under the influence or just do what i fell like doing(which is sitting down)? I am just worried that if i don't produce ne movement my heart will stop!? kinda a weird question! and also say for example i was on Heroin how do i know if i was ODing/or OD?? Whoever replys i appreciate your support and thanx a bunch!

I would recommend doing a lot more research before touching heroin. I am not an authority on heroin, but I know enough about it (watching my bf turn into a junkie was hard). Yes, it does slow your down your heart rate, but there is a ton of other things you should research like dosage, purity, etc. Also, having someone around who has experience with the drug is something that I recommend. I wouldn't advice anyone to use heroin for their first time alone.

Yes, heroin (or ANY opioid) can cause respiratory and cardiac depression... if you feel yourself having to fight to stay awake, then you need to either:
1) Make peace with god, lay back, and hope for the best..
2) Call 911 and tell them you're overdosing on heroin, then keep talking..
3) Move around, keep yourself awake, if you didn't do *TOO* MUCH then you should be able to keep yourself alive ..
4) This is BAD, RISKY, and could even push you further to the grave.. but if you feel that ou're going to pass out, you could consume a stimulant - I wouldnt recomend you IV it, but rail a good size line of meth or coke .. it may save you..
I think this user has enough background, once he )or she) learns about the correct dosing information he should be able to take a dive into the world of heroin!

The major danger of heroin overdose isn't your heart stopping as much as your breathing slowing/stopping .... of course if you're not getting enough oxygen because of depressed breathing, it will slow/weaken your pulse.
If you do the correct amount of heroin, you'll be fine doing whatever. If you do too much, you'll have to fight to stay awake, or you you will just pass out, and your breathing will drop off to dangerously low levels. This is bad... luckily paramedics can reverse an overdose as soon as they get to you, assuming you're still alive.

Any more details on this? - and if its "so easy", why not have whatever drug(?) they give you, at home - just in case?

Thanx you guys! I have been doing research on this drug for about 3 weeks now but i am still wanting to find out more. I am just going to do key bumps(very small ones) and work my way up from there but if ne one here has ANY information on Heroin PLEASE tell me and post it here i will greatly appreciate it! I t might help save my life! ya never know.

Perhaps even I could use an educational update on this subject. It's quite common for me to drift in and out of consciousness when I shoot heroin, struggling to stay awake. But usually I'm sitting in front of my computer and my struggle is to stay awake to make posts on message boards and if I really felt like keeping myself awake, I could easily move around. I usually wake up periodically every hour or two. I've only once ever been concerned. Any time I've felt like I've overdone it, I become nauseas.. and if I've really over done it, I vomit. The time I was actually concerned I was trying to move around and talk to people, but was falling asleep in mid-sentence and when I was awake I was periodically running to the bathroom to purge.
I am personally confident that I am well aware of my body's responses to different doses and I know the difference between a harmless nod and when I am really wrecked and heading into dangerous territory, which surely others, particularly newbies should not go by my standards as they may be different.
But perhaps I should ask, are my seemingly harmless nods really so harmless and even with all my experience should I have more concern if I'm periodically passing out for short times over the course of 4-6 hours after an injection?

Soviet -- well I'm very far from an expert here... but as long as your breathing doesn't get terribly depressed when you pass out, you should be fine. You can suffer brain damage from lack of oxygen (hypoxia) if your breath rate drops too low.
Personally I don't like to do so much as to actually fall asleep.. makes me miss out on the high. Falling asleep of course being different from the waking dreams I get while nodding.

That's probably a good idea. The drug they give you is naloxone (Narcan), an IV injection between of between 0.3mg and 2mg. Unfortunately this is not readily availabe, but you can get it from overseas pharmacies, last time I checked.
The major problem being that if you do OD on heroin or some other opioid, chances are you're going to be passed out and unable to give yourself injections. However a conscious friend could of course shoot you up. Naloxone also wears off after ~1/2 hour, so repeat injections are often required.
I know in Britain there is currently some debate over whether naloxone should be made available to heroin users. One concern is that a small percentage (~5%) of overdoses develop complications including convulsions.... at home you are unequipped to deal with these. Still, I personally think it's a very good idea to have some around, just in case.

It could turn your life upside down.
It could turn into an obsession where it changes the way you think and feel.
It could make you start lying to your family and friends.
It could make you lose all your money, and possibly have you enter a world where finding resources to get dope revolves around crime.
It MAY turn out to be the best feeling in your life, but there is evidence that long term opiate use causes depression.
In my experience with people (and PhreeX, you may be an exception), I rarely found a responsible heroin user. Once they were on the horse, there was nothing else in life...NOTHING...so keep this in mind. You may be just curious as to what it is like and want to try it. I tried it once (wasn't that impressed) and I knew that I could not do it as often as I did other things because it really starts to take over the way you think and feel right before you know it. So PLEASE...I beg you to be careful.

The concern in the US is that we have a zero tolerance policy for drug use and if Naloxone is readily available to junkies (like OTC or prescription) it sends the message to people that our government will tolerate drug use (this could start a huge debate).

I will take EVERYONES advice seriously and will keep in my mind 24/7. and like sovietconfin said about hobbies one time, well drugs are my hobby and i wanna learn as much as i can from them before using. Bluelight is one of my faveorite sites to find information so i sumtimes like now depend on it to find my information.

Melissa-
That's a good sign that you want to learn as much as you can about a drug before using it. It shows responsibility. Do you have friends who use or it this something that you alone are curious about? I only ask because years ago when I was curious about it, I was with friends who had experience with it and they took care of me. If you were to accidently OD, it would be beneficial to have someone there to take care of you.

Its would seem to me that they are perfectly harmless. Most OD's occur in the minutes after an injection, I have never known anybody personally (and I know quite a few dopers) that have OD after a significant period of time elapsed. One of the effects of Heroin in higher doses (maybee not even in high doses, I should say recreational dose) is nodding out. I cant really see any reason at all that nodding out is unhealthy. Its just a common characteristic of the drug. I am the same way (if I do enough dope to nod) I will nod out periodicaly through out the day. It seems I tend to nod out as the high progresses, i.e. 3-4 hrs into the high. When I start nodding in the minutes after getting high, I know either A)I got real good dope B)I might have done to much C)My tolerence is real low. Whenever I start to nod real early an OD is a possibility, and will usually try to force myself to move or do something so I say "in it" and dont drift off into the unconscious...

My expeirence mimics Soviet's description almost verbatim, and I lean towards definitley agreeing with blah's reply. Of course, I'm not a daily habitual opiate user like some here, so I don't have much of a tolerance to speak of, but I tend to nod almost everytime I bang opiates. And I typically tend to nod more frequently as time progress after the inital rush. This has been going on in all my years of using opiates...
Though I disagree with one thing, even though most OD's occur relativley quickly, I have seen OD's occur outside the first inital minutes of use with smack, particulary one fatal OD (Hours later), but even then, other drugs were involved, alcohol and benzo's. Thus, around here, we take extra effort to make sure people stay awake, even if they are nodding, but just as an extra precaution and if others are around.
Anyways, in regards to the constant nodding out, this is also not uncommon amongst all the people I know who do opiates, a bit of nodding out is pretty much a normal part of things, and not particularly an alarming warning sign in and of itself that OD'ing is inevitable. It acts as more a dynamic of the drug and seems like a natural biological response to the intorduction of mass amounts of opiates to the body.
Personally I'm going to lean towards it being largley harmless. Shooting up heroin makes you a bit drowsy. Imagine that...

So how does heroin lower respitory rate? As it also restricts pupils it has been my hypothesis that it activates/stimulatse the parasympathetic nervous system (indirectly of course...I believe meth/coke directly stimulate the sympathetic system). Anyway instead of responding with a stimulant (there is some reason why this can be dangerous I think but it is not entierly clear to me) why not use a parasympatholytic...i.e. a drug which surrpresses the body effects of stimulating the parasympathetic system.
For instance atropine....or for those who don't want the nasy side effects some of the new medicenes developed for asthma (itapodine or something). Does anyone know if this would work to help reduce the body effects of heroin and perhaps help a minor OD.

HEARTBEAT-Yes actually i do have a friend who does it. I think he would take care of me lol i'm not sure! but i wanna know if i did key bumps do i not feel the same effects that you do when you bang it??? ro does it just take awhile to kick in! i am hoping i will fell the same effects but it would just take longer.

The key bump theory is good I think, but like blahblahblah said, wait like 30min before doing another. My first experience was like many, too much too much, you should start small because like coke, the high is different than others. I snorted it the first time, and it didn't produce a rush the way iving it does for me, so I thought i had to do more, and all I ended up doing was throwing up and nodding for long periods of time. But then I only snorted it once, so perhaps others have had a rush.
Ive never worried about heart stopping, but there have been times where if I thought about my breathing, I would have to concentrate to breath normally. So if you notice you breathing being shallow thats when you should try not to nod out. Otherwise enjoy, though you'll almost definetely get sick your first time. :)

Yes, same effects. You'll miss out on the "rush" of the first few minutes after IVing, but you still get the normal opioid effects, which are the best part IMO.

For whatever chemical reason -- a direct cellular effect, or more likely release of the inhibitory effect of opioid neurons -- mu and particularly kappa opioids cause stimulation of the oculomotor nerve (3rd cranial nerve). A quick web search indicated that this was only partially blocked by atropine etc.
Opioid respiratory depression is caused by similar direct effects on the portions of the brain stem controlling respiration. It is not a result of parasympathetic stimulation.
Care,
Zorn
