anyone? hahahaha.

i love it, and even sometimes prefer it when rolling. not on psychedelics though.

preferably anything third wave and two-tone.
and streetlight manifesto. the 4th wave. lolz.

why has no one responded to the SKA THREAD?! i love ska. Ever heard of "The Love Astronauts"? They're not very big. But that's so bad ass and put on a show and a half. I've never ska danced so hard. Ha

have you guys ever seen that show "Mission Hill" ? The dudes roommate in that show is into ska music and smokes pot, its a cartoon that looks like it takes place in the 90's in some 'new-york/LA" style town.. check it out, whenever the characters go out to a show its always a ska show.. lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFkafZZOqEQ --- "Alright EVERYBODY SKA!!" haha

The Toasters - Dont Let the bastards grind you down http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu7rPq_0kJ0

why do/did "Skinheads" like Ska music? Or was it just more of the style that was emanating and not so much the ideology of the typical skinhead?

edit:

Ok nevermind I just read that real Skinheads weren't really racist. it was just a style that the Neo-Nazi racist guys stole from them..

wiki said:
A skinhead is a member of a subculture that originated among working class youths in the United Kingdom in the 1960s, and then spread to other parts of the world. Named for their close-cropped or shaven heads, the first skinheads were greatly influenced by West Indian (specifically Jamaican) rude boys and British mods, in terms of fashion, music and lifestyle..

the song i posted is by some non white dudes.

I love '69 style skinhead dancehall ska, think trojan records an ting.

is a good taster of artists. Also can't go wrong with 2 tone specials/selecter type stuff I've been out on the piss with busta from bad manners also, fat men can drink lots.

As far as ska/punk crossover stuff goes I like leftover crack/choking victim and other grimy squat stylee bands (check the uk band power corrupts for an example. I'm not a fan of the cleaner pop punk takes on ska though.

I think this thread deserves a bump! How can people not like Ska :p

Some good mentions above but distinct lack of some of my favourites!

Sublime - Garden Grove , Santeria

Pepper - Stormtrooper, B.O.O.T

Imperial Leisure - Untouchable

The Skints (bit more reggae really but they are great!) - Murderer, Bright Girl (need to press play on the player, couldn't find a good video on youtube)

Oh and here is MIA performing with The Specials on Jools Holland

I could go on and on... plenty of other good songs and bands. Sublime is my favourite though and I was lucky enough to see them playing live in London last year with The Skints supporting. The mosh pit for Date Rape and 4000+ people singing Santeria were the highlights, oh and Rome saying "Right On! You guys are smoking weed in here?!"

He isn't Bradley Nowell, but he did an amazing job all the same.

Does anyone play in a Ska band or anything? I've been trying to do my best to get that reggae/ska sound but it's difficult on a LP. Got a Multi FX pedal so might be able to get one if I play around enough. I've heard that a Tele with standard pots does remarkably well in getting the right sound.
