Silkroad 2.0 seized by feds/doj

...Is it because the Chancellor hasnt lost out in Income Tax, NI, Vat etc in a drug case where as the serial killer lorry driver has being paying his way, he's probably given some leniency for offing those scummy Tax dodging, Benefit claiming strèet workers 8)

Countries mental...

They now count drugs as part of gdp in the uk (along with prostitution) - they estimate the amount of money spent by households on drugs (that's why we had to pay that extra bit to the EU recently). Plus drug dealer profits do go into society, giving vat on the way (on posh cars/flat screens etc). Add to that the GDP/tax coming from the world's central drug money laundering operation, the city of london (financial crash notwithstanding).

I think a big motivation to keep the drug laws as they are is class prejudice - a carte blanche excuse for the police to pull anyone in a scruffy car/with long hair/black skin etc. Drug laws are much less rigorously enforced on rich people like 'tooting' Gideon Osbourne - laws, like taxes, are for little people.

...

I like the idea of MAID Safe, a new decentralised type of internet with encryption built-in at the heart (a sort of child of tor and bitcoin, but more besides) - this seems like it could make for better online freedom in the future - if it's ever allowed to happen...

Admin of SR2 lives in the same city as DPR of SR1, around the same age, interests, script kiddies,,? Not sure if coincidence.

Also 2 other DarkNet websites have been confirmed as being seized, probably using the same hosting service.

The admin gave an undercover agent access to SR2 right after it had launched (someone who was very trusted in the community, and one of the admins/mods currently on SR2, so an insider from day 1 gathering info) still no one knows who this is.

Says the website made $400,00 monthly in commission,

SR2 made CNN a few months ago when he became the "anonymous" purchaser of a tesla s style car worth $120,000 in bitcoins.

Un-fucking-believable it's taken my pal over a year to suss this deep web/bit coins shit out . we got some Xanax last week and had some oxy ordered.
I phoned him up and told him and he wouldn't have ,told me to stop fucking about and hung up. lol.

bit of a strange question - if a certain vendor has been proven to be selling fake stuff, when does the harm reduction / advertising thing stop?

Can we never name a vendor?

Defcon wasnt the smartest cookie it seems....

-SR2 has been compromised since the very first day, at the drawing board step.
-Blake Benthall, aka "Defcon", also lived in the USA.
-he logged as defcon on his personnal computer
-he registered the silkroad servers using his real email, which was actually his entire name.
-he bought 270,000$ worth of luxuries from cash exchanged from bitcoin on public exchanges using his own ID in the 2 first months of SR.
-physicial surveillance from his house matched the conection times of Defcon and massive tor usage
-he accessed some silkroad server functionalities and did silkroad-related bitcoin transactions on a normal browser

good summary.

if someone wants to track you they can. TOR is not safe.
but neither are most things in this world.

I cant believe how retarded this guy was.. the mistakes he made are utterly ridiculous to say he already had a "how not to setup and run a hidden service" guide in the shape of Ross Ulbricht..:(

24 years old, lifes fucked and hes no doubt going to drag alot down with him.:(

i find myself always a bit divided when discussing these operations... on the one hand he was supposedly doing noone any harm, but on the other he was offering an apparently false sense of security... imho he would only be bringing down those that were equally careless...

I think the system works, its just the name thing... don't fucking aggrevate the law man ....... just pray he lets you go your way if he notices you

Largely I tend to agree he seems to have been more than a little careless, it's interesting to see this as it's consistent with the way many complex frauds and thefts are carried out.

It often seems to be the case that people do just enough to get away with it, at least initially. The evolution of such things only seems to happen when the current MO is busted, much like evolution in general.

What it does suggest is that the next incarnations will be more secure than the last...round 3 ;)

Yeah i agree Kingme, those who weren't cautious themselves only have themselves to blame really as they know what they're getting involved with. From what i read of Defcons posts he was purporting to be building the most complexed hidden service going which LE would never be able to crack, he walked his staff and vendors down the garden path and instead of a Fort Knox of hidden services it was in fact, a shitty shed...

He was clearly not up to the job so i just cannot fathom why clearly an intelligent guy would risk it all like that, he witnessed what happened with the original and yet he still carried on.

Id love to be privy to the real goings on of SR1 and 2, ive never used them - i swear officer - but i do love following the story..

Strangely enough i acquired my first BCs in possibly 2 years the day before yesterday, bought them the day before SR went down, and they were sitting in the BC traders site ready to be transfred the day SR got taken down. Lucky i slept in late that day i guess. :\ I wonder if there'll be a repeat of the crazy price peaks again. Might sit on them for a bit and see what happens, a bit optimistic maybe, but FA to loose, i could have made £47,000 grand last time this happened, instead i made £3,250 profit (by cashing in during what i presumed was gonna be the peak)which i was extremely chuffed about anyway.

Get greedy, and gamble more, i could have lost the £3,250. No one can predict what will happen to the value of the BCs, perhaps when the feds seize the coins off SR the prices will rocket again. Currently the BC price has not wavered. There's no way i'll be making these sorts of profits this time though, last time the coins were about 50€ or something even less, i cant recall, so i got a lot of coins for my £250. This time i only bought 0.4 BC, so i cant realistically see any huge windfalls coming out of that.

Also all of the other known tor sites that i was aware of are now defunct, but someone has tipped to me towards another that i hadnt heard about before. I'll need to thoroughly check it out first though, as thoroughly as my concentration and interest will allow atleast.

^ no there is activity on an unprecedented scale I would say... I'm not currently underway with any TOR or anything due to bitcoins being so difficult to liquidate and lack of need; but i've kept up with the newest shit and there is a union of sorts all backed up in one system for many smaller sites and I don't believe SR2 was at all connected

well, it is 2 years since i used tor, so im well out of the frame and completly not up to date, the handfull of other tor drug sites listed on the open Wiki are all defunct. I guess I'll have to use tor searach engines when my head clears a bit. Or investigate the site that was mentioned. I tend to go for the easiest option every time. Does it stand to reason that the site i got told about is probably now the biggest and most well known one? I dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing right now:?

The hidden wiki is a baaad place to try to find DNMs, since people are forever putting phishing links up in place of the legit sites.

There is a clearnet site which I obviously can't link to here but should be easy to find on Google, which keeps up to date lists of DNM URLs and their current status (up, down, busted). Just copy and paste the URL from there.

The DNM I consider to be the best currently doesn't seem to be affected by this round of takedowns, but I'm pretty sure (just from reading admin posts on their forum) that they're not operating out of SF or even the USA, which is a pretty good start in terms of opsec...

Huge raid to shut down 400-plus dark net sites

lol most of the websites were mirror links and forums

Six Britons were also arrested, including a 20-year-old man from Liverpool, a 19-year-old man from New Waltham, a 30 year-old-man from Cleethorpes and a man and woman, both aged 58, from Aberdovey, Wales.

Those 3 from wales... apparently quite a large vendor.

Definitely will be a scare for all the other sites out there. Might make most of them take another look at their security features.

the maddest thing is - i once knew this guy through a old chatroom back in the day - but originally knew him from another game/chat which he was a script kiddie on. (he made a fair few different programs for the game) going back 10 years ago lol (im refering to basic chatrooms like VP etc)

Ive never used any of these market places - didnt trust any of them.
