Are there any side effects that hydrocodone-based medications might have that oxycodone-based ones wouldn't? Better said - If I currently have a Rx for Vicodin, what might make my doctor change it to something oxycodone-based? I've told her already that the Vicodin only numbs the pain for a couple of hours. Is she likely to increase my dosage or prescribe something else? Is it possible to have a bad reaction to one and not the other? Thanks.

You already made probably a bad move saying the Vic was effective at all.
Wait for more replies to follow mine to get better advice, but my first thought would be to say that you're having to take quite a bit for it to stop the pain and that they make you incredibaly itchy.
Hydrocodone seems to cause more itchiness than oxycodone and if you say they're not really doing enough for the pain, you could hopefully get bumped up to Percocet.
I'm sure others will have better and more detailed advice, though.

If you say it makes you itch, you get an anti-histime such as Vistaril (sp?) .. you're best saying that it works, but it's not effective enough... say you want to take another dose but don't because you're afraid of overdoseing or something... really, just you your imigination... there are also a number of other posts about this EXACT SAME THING, hence the reason is gets the....
