Side Effects (aside from addiction) from oxycontin

Hello,

I was wondering what effects oxycontin has on the brain and body (kidneys & liver)

I know it is addicting, but what other side effects are there?

Are there any long term side effects (even after the user has quit the drug)?

Does it mess with the brain chemstry at all? Eg: Cause depression? anxiety?

I know that ecstacy abuse has led many to long term side effects & problems, but does oxycontin?

Would a oxycontin abuser have a shorter life span? Would they have more depression?

My question is for a background of a daily user for about 1 year. I am aware of addiction and withdrawals, but wanted to know what other type of side effects & harm is being done to a persons body. Thank you in advance.

I can tell you one thing it definately causes when abused.....

CONSTIPATION like no other.
The only reasons I limit my opiate usage is constipation from them and potential dependence.....

long term effects.

(and since were on the topic of constipation, I don't get it from oxy at all)

I believe that your body stops producing it's own endorphins after chronic use, ,but I don't know for how long. Anybody know how long?

WOW!

How much do you use and how often???

If u use like I did I don't understand how one could not have constipation of any kind, but who knows.

It's not like trainspotting where u can just go real easy when it wears off, you'll get impacted.....

The constapation is easily relieved by drinking a lot of water (gallon)throughout the day and taking a powdered fiber supplement. Even with near daily use.

i think this might be true (long term, possibly permanant downregulation or long term/permanant loss of the ability to produce endorphins or something along those lines). one of my friends says that even after he went over 3 months completely sober (no alcohol, caffeine, or anything) he still didnt feel 'right' (or normal or whatever) until he got some opiates in his system :\ i'm kinda an addict right now, but here soon i'll go the 'totally sober' route and go at least a few weeks like that (at least thats the plan) :|

Yeah and contipation's a big one! If you do anything over 25mg over 24hours your gonna get constipated. 40mg in one day for sure constipate you. And you'll also keep thnking about getting high when you day dream for example, usually happens when you smoke weed ;) .

I don't find Oxys as constipating as MSContin. Probably are as bad if you swallow them whole and not crushed. Last weekend I tried eating some MSContin whole and then repeated dosing of chewed Oxy(MSContinin an attempt to prolong the high) and I got so constipated it was really unpleasant. Other than that it did nothing to improve/prolong the high really. Don't get that nearly to the same extent if I just chew some Oxys. Also found Dilaudids were not as bad. I think for me it is the delayed release action that does me in with the constipation.

long term usage WILL result in irrepairable liver damage. and with heavy usage it will occur rather quickly.

How long till you feel normal?

How long till a longterm addict would feel normal? That is till his/her body stated producing/sensing its own feel good chemicals again.
