I am forever cursing the day that I traded a poxy 100-120mg per day oxy habit for a much more difficult buprenorphine addiction. Of course my sub Dr inducted me on a dose that was far too high (12mg) and convinced me that I would need to be on subs for at least 6 months, perhaps longer. Fast forward 3 years and I find myself still on subs and desperate to get off. Currently I take 0.80 mg three times a day for a total of 2.4 mg. I used to dose once a day, but I found that once I got below 2mg, the dose would wear off after a couple of hours, so now I find myself needing 3 doses per day roughly 4 to 5 hours apart (except for after I go to bed).
I mean, this is the worst shit ever. I once tried jumping off from 2.5 mg a day using Kratom. Well, the Kratom kept withdrawal at bay and after 3 weeks, I ran out. Instead of ordering more, I thought "Surely the sub withdrawal shoud be mostly mitigated after being on kratom for 22 days right?" --WRONG!!! On day 23 I felt so miserable that I had to take some more sub. It took about 1.5 mg to get me feeling right.
On another forum, there is a taper advocated that consists of reducing your dose 25% every 4-5 day . Proponents say that it is very easy, and relatively pain -free. Really? Who can do that? Or am I just different from everyone else who takes sub? My experience has been that I can be stable on a given dose and if I reduce by just 15-20%, it is fucking unbearable by the second day. I have to taper at a miserably slow pace on the order of 10% or so every two weeks.
I am very frustrated at how long it takes to get off this stuff, so I am seriously considering trying to switch over to hydrocodone for 2-3 months and try to taper and cold turkey off that. I'm guessing at my current bupe dosage 40-50 mg of hydro a day should do. Has anyone tried this?
I know that the first thing people will usually say is the risk of going back to active opiate addiction. I think this would be a minimal risk for me because: 1) I am sooo over opiates and 2) I don't feel euphoria anymore at all from full agonists. Even after waiting 24 hrs or more after being on < 2mg of sub per day, I don't feel euphoria from 2mg IV dilaudid (ER visit) or 80mg oral oxy. Sure I feel a little buzzed, but not that euphoria. If you don't get that euphoria anymore then why even bother doing opiates? Point is, I am done with opiates. And my life is pretty good now, so I am ready to move on.
Well, why don't I just go on my merry way and taper 10% every two weeks you ask? Because I am so ready to be free of this stuff. I am sick of being chained to these pills. I hate feeling that fatigue and grumpiness every time I need to dose. I also feel that even at my current dosage (which is relatively low), my short-term memory and libido are adversely affected.
Besides, 10% every 2 weeks will take forever (as its a non-linear decrease). Will switching over to a full agonist with a short half-life (hydro) for a couple of months get all the sub out so that all I will have to deal with is hydro withdrawal for a week or so (instead of a month)? Of course, I would try to taper down the hydro as low as possible.
Opinions please. Thanks!
