It's gonna be my first time on Saturday doing shrooms and I'm not really sure how
much I'm getting, he either said it was 5 or 10 per gram and I told him to get me
$30 worth. I WANT to be able to divide it into three nights (I'm not planning on
doing them one night after the other), would it be possible to split it up like that
and still be able to have some good effects?

it depends on how much you get. if you get 3 grams it's only one trip ate the most one and a half. with 6 grams you can divide it to 2 trips or 3 weak ones.
you will feel the shroom effect on 2 grams but you will not get shroomed

heh, I'm still a little confused (not your fault). Alright, how many caps would you suggest that someone take for their first trip? I want to be able to see things and stuff. Any help is greatful

two is the minimum, three makes stuff happen, 3+ the shrooms really starts to kick in and somewhat of a acidic trip will occur

i've tried half an eigth and a full eigth before and both were really intense trips. depending on the potency of the shrooms you wont need a lot.

well, there are 28 grams in an ounce, so 1/8th of an ounce would be 3.5 grams.

Is there a certain number of caps in a gram, I know it depends on weight and everything, but I was just wondering if there is an average #?

no. they can vary amazingly. don't take a certain number of caps, have your friend who's getting them show you how much to take.

Also remember that caps are not necessarily stronger than stems.
If they're decent shrooms you can get off on like a cap and a stem but that's probably not the trip you're looking for.
I would take at least half of the shrooms (if you're getting 3g at $10/per) or a quarter (if you're getting 6g at $5/per) to have a decent shroom trip.
An 1/8 is usually a pretty good trip.
