Help! Shrooms, therapeutic dose for a first timer.

The term “therapeutic dose” can be interpreted in many ways. What do you want out of a mushroom experience? What do you expect?

Psychedelics are fundamentally non-relaxing. Tripping feels like going on a long hike. The headspace comes before he visuals: That being said, a gram will get you fleeting visuals, and two grams will be a full fledged trip.

Cheers, although now I have done a little research it appears that mushrooms work on the same method of action as my anti depressants (duloxetine) do, so potentially an unsafe combination.

Note that the dosages suggested by Skorpio are for "average" mushrooms, and in reality, mushrooms vary a lot in potency, even from the same batch. I prefer to take a larger quantity, grind them to powder, and then start small--maybe 0.25g in order to assess how strong they are.

It's hard to be certain, but assuming you aren't on any other drugs (especially MAOIs!), it's probably not unsafe. However the problem you will have is that duloxetine and other such SSRI anti-depressants interfere with or block the effects of psychedelics, so you may have a muted experience or may not feel much at all.

For various reasons, I'm not inclined to encourage anyone to discontinue an anti-depressant or even skip doses. If you do decide to quit the anti-depressant, I would advice that standard guidelines for discontinuation are problematic and many people need very long tapering periods (potentially years, depending on your specific situation) to avoid potentially severe withdraw effects.

My first psychedelic trip I split 3.5g with a friend, so around 1.75g each (assuming that the "eight" we got was weighed to 3.5g exactly). This resulted in a fairly strong trip. Now I don't know if the trip was very "strong" or because it was my first time experiencing that shift in perspective. It was definitely profound and I wouldn't change the experience at all . I definitely had visuals, a decently strong headspace and was prone to emotional swings and it was very introspective. I went in to the experience with my only intention to be to experience the drug for what it was and I definitely did. If I had gone in with therapeutic intent then I don't doubt that it would have been therapeutic.

Mushroom trips can have difficult moments, but every single time that I've gone into a mushroom experience with the intent of healing something in myself, I have always come out of the experience feeling very grateful for it

Obviously this is all subjective and ymmv, but imo 2G for your first time and assuming that goes well and isn't overwhelming in any way 3.5 for your second. 2G is on the medium to mild end of tripping territory while 3.5 is what I'd call a full blown magic mushroom trip. Potentially more challenging but also where the magic and healing is in my experience.

That's also assuming a variety of average strength ie golden teachers b+ etc. If you're looking at penis envy or pan cyans then halve the dose.

Lemontek or make tea. Not everyone gets nausea from eating whole shrooms but it's a bitch when you do.

Just seen you're on an SNRI. Not necessarily an unsafe combination but they will interfere and potentially block the trip entirely. Some people still manage to trip when prescribed SSRI/SNRIs while other can't at all.
