Um, no. Early stages are a little like you described but like only last for a day or so then the mighty shroom takes its adult form and grows and grows and grows. Well formed shrooms with light brown caps and bright white stems are pretty much prefect. Each to his own I suppose.

That explanation has me dying to grow them now

How long does it usually take for mushies to fully grow, couple of weeks isn't it?

Well, every grow and strain is different. I prefer cambodians for a host of reasons including the speed of colonization and hardyness. From first sign of the shrooms to the veils start opening is 7 - 10 days normally. It can take up to 2 weeks for the mycelium to start producing fruit.
