Show us something cool in your house

Kate and I were just having a closer look at it all, and think it's all very very nice. Tell us a bit more about the fish - is it painted on the wall? By whom? And what's the story behind the Egyptian things?

You need to work on your framing technique though. ;)

Are those green things lava lamps?? Never had a lava lamp, i remember asking for one when i were a kid and my dad inexplicably saying no.. im gonna put all of my isuues down to that... :)

Yes, one of two lava lamps. The camel is a hand carved camel with a tiny other camel trapped inside (facing backwards), which I bought from a wee shop in the old city centre of Tripoli, in Libya a few years ago. Fuck knows how it was made, I can't see any joins or anything. :?
 
MDB- anything is better than a bare wall. The third papyrus is also actually cool. And the Dylan LPs aren't glassed, I did a sort of makeshift frame thing involving furniture components and blu-tac ;)

sorry, was getting impatient wasnt i :D Cheers. Yeah i presume the previous owners 'created' the fish, i didnt ask them about that, it's actually made out of another layer of wallpaper slapped on top of the base layer. Perhaps there's a bulge in the plaster behind it or something and it's a cunning way to disguise that. W/e it gives me a good excuse to not re-decorate the bathroom as i like the fish and have decided that it's staying.

I found the 1st papyras in a charity shop for a couple of quid and the volunteer in the shop that day was quite annoyed as he was gonna put it aside for himself but i beat him to it. I got the others off ebay, they've been gathering dust in the spare room for years as ive not quite decided where or how to mount the things, especially now that i have to re-do the glass on 2 of them, something is bound to go wrong, like one of the clips will break or something. Nothing quite like positive thinking is there. 8(

Sorry - forgot to say, I liked your Dylan stuff too.

That makes three of us who've rather shoddily stuck things to our walls, but who cares? ;) I've enjoyed bringing these long-forgotten items out of retirement from a storage box, and framing them in an amateurish fashion is better than not seeing them at all. I've fallen back in love with the artistic merits of my old vinyl and plan to rotate them out in a regular manner from now on. BLT is up on the wall now as promised. Hehe.

Heh. I was in a charity shop recently, in a charitable mood (:p) when I came across a new item in their gents clothing rack. In a state of surprise, I beckoned over the assistant and told them that this 1970s era Fila tracksuit top in as-new condition was an exquisite and desirable piece of vintage clothing, and the sticker price of £2.49 was a huge mistake. I told them someone would pay £20 for it, EASILY, that they should put it the window, and if it was put on eBay it would probably get £50-100. She was very appreciative of my comments and said she'd deal with it.

Next day, I went back in, and the top was gone and it was a different member of staff. Call me cynical, but I do wonder what perhaps happened to it. :| In hindsight, I should have mercenarily (is that even a word?) snatched it up and dealt with it myself. I've given that shop quite a bit of business so my conscience would have been clear. %)

I'm sure you know that BLT = Bizarre Love Triangle :p
 
felix- how are you sticking vinyls up on the wall? I find sticking blu-tac straight on the sleeve itself sacrilege, but if you put it in a plastic sleeve it creates light-reflecty issues, hence my makeshift solution. You can tell I've got my life priorities in order ;)

I thought they were very cool - better than cool actually. Love the fish, nice oriental lines and colouring going on there. The papyras' are amazing, I want to come round to yours and curate them for you %)

Tell me more, where did you get them, why etc?

I have a similar thing in the shape of an Elephant, only its made of granite, i forget where from now, Jordan or Egypt, one or t'other.. MrsMist has a love for elephants so i grabbed one as a souvenir.. ah, thats it, i was in Jordan, Petra to be precise..

With it being made of granite i dont think joints are doable so id say someone painstakingly carved it out of a solid peice whether it be wood or stone.. pretty impressive really, it probably cost me about 20 pence, the skills vs pay is all outta sync there..8)

I''m sure some people volunteer to work in those places at times when they need stuff for their homes etc. That's being a realist not a cynic. You get private landlords coming along to the furniture shops and snapping up virtually everything before its even been unloaded from the van. These places are meant to be for local people in need and not for landlords to furnish student houses for next to nothing. I wondered why the guy who ran the shop didnt say anything to object, as it was so blatant, but i guess money in the till is their main objecttive. :\ If you cant beat them, join them:?:sus: That vintage 70s item probably was put on ebay.

yeah the BLT was a lame attempt at a joke. :o

Fish is cool, repro papyruses are kinda garishly coloured but quite cool all the same. But more to the point, I mentioned previously owning a purple piano - a fukkin purple piano - and not a sniff. That's just plain cold :|

My dear boy, you can "mention" whatever you like, but this is the internet where we are able to share images with each other in full colour. To coin a phrase, show us pics or begone with thee. ;)
