Should organ donation be compulsory?

Damn lots of mixed opinions on here.

I'm a donor, been one ever since I got my license. Its selfish not too in my opinion. You could be saving a childs life.

Your dead what the fuck should you care. Geeze, some real fuckin winners in here. Pat yourself on the back for over thinking organ donation.

If someone is 30 stone because they couldn't control their eating habit then why should organs be donated to them? Or someone whos wasted their liver through boozing all the time? They will just go out and waste their health again. That's my point, with a surplus of organs you're going to end up giving people a second chance who don't deserve one until they have reformed mentally first. I don't want my organs ending up in some fucknut who is going to waste them. If they go to someone who's been injured by another fucknut (or through sheer bad luck) then OK I'll give mine to them.

I'm against prolonging the life of wasters. We have far too many. Let them die. And yes nature knows best.. that is a non-argument. I don't care what you think about that, nature knows how to keep the balance and keep things running smoothly, man knows how to upset that balance for his own selfish ends.

ps If someone is 30 stone and dying because of their weight, then yes they are fucking stupid. I have sympathy for how they go to where they are, but they're still stupid.

I've just been reading through some of your posts in this thread and I must say you seem horrid. I'm just guessing here but I assume you have used/do use drugs so you are also a fucking hypocrite.

ss' posts are a forest of straw men and other fallacious arguments.

i believe that people should be free to decide what happens to their own body after they die. i believe electing to not allow your organs to be donated after your death is an incredibly selfish act.

alasdair

no, it's your body and your decision how your remains are to be dealt with. I'm an organ donor though already had one kidney and other organs removed but they're welcome to whatever is left :D.
I also signed up to be a donor just to get the little <3 on my license, such a warm fuzzy feeling every time hand license over at a roadblock:|

And I like that proposed Irish law where the assumption is that you're a donor unless expressly stated otherwise, fair enough

No, it should not be compulsory. This thread is starting to remind me of the tried and true "abortion" debate.

I keep toying back and forth with the idea of donating my organs after I'm deceased. However, it should not be an automatic yes, as there are many religious people that don't want to donate their organs. Organ donation being compulsory is a lawsuit/supreme court case waiting to happen, since not everyone will be aware.

Well personally if they threw me underground, into a fire, or in the trash I wouldn't mind. Harvest my organs? Go ahead: If there are any keepers worth harvesting

I'm half and half on this, part of me wants to say most definitely, because many a life would be saved if this were the case, but at the same time it's disrespectful to those whose beliefs would go against this, e.g. people who think that their body needs to be well preserved for them to reach an afterlife they believe in.

What about everyone having to choose each year (in case the decision changes) if they wish for their organs to be donated upon death or not - you have to tick either yes or no, and every person has to answer.

I think most people who don't donate their organs simply don't because they were too lazy to ever sign up for it in the first place, I haven't signed up as an organ donor yet because hey I'm young, I've got lots of things to do, I don't think about it really.. but if I had a letter sent to my door asking me to tick a box to sign me up as an organ donor then I'd be signed up as of years ago.
