Should my roommate try MDMA?

It's been almost a year now since I started taking MDMA, or in reality probably Methylone, with moderate use with a least a month or longer in between uses. I've really gotten into Electronic music and raves starting 2 years ago, and my roommate went to one with some friends and I a few months ago. He wanted to do MDMA for the first time, so I gave him two caps of 100mg to use over 2hrs. Long story short, he ended up not rolling at all because of an SSRI he takes for his OCD condition, which we later discovered. I ended up getting a test kit and found out the stuff I got was Methylone anyway. He's still determined to stop taking his SSRI for a week or two to roll eventually though, and after thinking about it I don't know if it's such a good idea.

My roommate has some big OCD/anxiety issues that he has gone to a group program to help fix. When his mother and him first signed the lease a year ago, he disappeared/isolated himself completely due to the program that he attended. I was worried for him and constantly tried to talk to him, but his mother said it was a personal thing for him to tell me when the time was right. 7 months passed and he popped up again and finally moved in and explained to me his situation. He seems to have learned some good things through the program, and I don't notice him distraught or any abnormal behavior. He also takes multiple prescriptions, one being Zoloft (SSRI), another being Ritalin, along with some other stuff. He smokes weed all the time on top of that, which actually stimulates him to a great degree, probably because of the other prescription drugs.

Anyway, what I've been concerned about is if he should try MDMA or not. Previously I was all for him trying it, but I don't know how it'll affect him due to his different body chemistry along with the prescription drugs he takes. He is not on any MAOI's, I double checked that after finding out they were deadly with MDMA, but I'm still cautious. Ultimately it is his choice to do it or not, but I want to let him know any heightened risk he is taking, if there is one. On that note, do you think my roommate should/should not try MDMA? Why or why not?

Since getting fed up with all the Methylone, even though I enjoy it, I acquired a new reputable source and also used a test kit on the MDMA. So the drug itself or purity is fine.

IMO you should not take MDXX whilst on SSRIs or SNRIs not only will they not work very well but there is a possible risk ofSerotonin_syndrome

People will report they have taken the combination without issue but personally and I've been on various ADs over a number of years I would definitely not take the risk, the paranoia alone would be enough to ruin the experience for me.

If he already takes Ritalin which is quite a powerful stimulant he should also take that into account when indulging in other stimulants, the combination may not be intrinsicly (sp) dangerous but it could lead to feeling jittery or over stimulated.

Taking recreational drugs whilst also taking these sort of prescribed medications is something to approach with caution, as far as his mental health issue are concerned I don't think that alone should prevent someone from taking recreational drugs but again extra caution should be exercised in case anxiety and paranoia are triggered.

If he is taking a lot of various prescription drugs for his anxiety / OCD then to stop taking them for any reason other than stipulated by his doctor is not advised. Taking MDMA when on SSRI's is also not advised and explained / discussed here.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the responses. I'm pretty sure he is on moderate-large doses for his prescriptions, so if he stopped taking Zoloft for 2 weeks he would probably end up feeling bad. After doing MDMA, he would crash harder than someone who does not take any SSRI's or meds in general. Ultimately, it is his choice but after the info you showed me, especially the link you gave me Bearlove, I'm inclined to tell him the risks and suggest him not doing MDMA. Of course that will probably make him want to do it more a bit, but I think I can convince him. He has had an amazing time at raves/concerts when some other friends and I were rolling, since he is a pretty positive person.

Unrelated to MDMA, but could anyone tell me how SSRI's (Zoloft) would affect an acid trip? He wants to try it.

Sorry to just post links but This and this should give you a tonne of information about mixing Zoloft with LSD.

Failing that I would ask in the PD section as those guys will be able to give you and upto date reply - from what I just skimmed through (you will need to read in more depth) LSD may have a reduced effect on people who are taking SSRI.

Thanks so much Bearlove, those links help out tremendously. I'm going to show my roommate all this information when I return back home after the holidays, and try to convince him that it is probably not worth it. I'm the furthest person from being a doctor, but stopping meds for 1-2 weeks doesn't sound good. I want to ask him how much the SSRI has been helping him and in what ways since he started using it a few months ago, just out of curiosity.

Sorry to break it to you, but people with emotional problems should NOT be the ones trying drugs. This is because those people are the ones who are most likely to use drugs to cope with their problems in life. The problem with that is, drugs are only a temporary solution...if you have problems in your life, they are still going to be there, and whenever you're not on the drug, you'll have to deal with them. So, the solution is to constantly be taking the drug....you see where this is going? Basically, the only people IMO who should be doing highly addictive drugs are emotionally stable people with very few problems in their life. Using drugs to cope with life's problems is a recipe for disaster

What? MDMA is not physically addictive.

Regardless the MDMA is unlikely to work very well if he is on SSRI medication. He shouldn't stop taking this medication just to get on MDMA either.

It can be very psychologically addicting for certain people though.

Going off medication like ssris and other necessary for his conditions for an extended period of time just for a night of getting high is an extremely bad idea.

So can bacon sandwiches

Thanks for all the input guys. I definitely need to make him know that he'll probably feel terrible while stopping his meds beforehand, the roll will probably be reduced somewhat, and he may feel worse than someone not on SSRI's the day after. MDMA doesn't sound like its for him, as long as he's prescribed an SSRI. It doesn't sound worth it to stop and feel miserable for a week or two, even though MDMA is an incredible experience.
