Hi, noob to BL here.
I wouldn't say "permanently" rewire, just rewire as long as you're taking the SSRI. The main think they do is allow more seratonin to be active within your spinal column. My experience with SSRIs was very negative, but it was positive because the doc said that only shows that SSRIs were not for me. My symptoms were a total and complete loss of all emotion, along with overwhelming complacency and passivity, which took about 2 weeks or so to be obvious (which is normal). It was all I could do to drag myself out of bed, go to work, come home, eat and repeat next day. My slight depression went away, but in a terrible way.
The absense of any & all emotion was a very un-welcome replacement. I can definately see how this would be good for someone with major depression, but mine was minor. Doc said these symptoms only show that I don't have major depression & don't need SSRIs. I agree SSRIs can be a really bad deal, but I also have a couple of friends who are helped greatly by them. If they go off SSRIs then they return to major depression, including suicidal issues with one of them. For me I was on SSRI for a few months until I discovered the emotional absense was caused by them, quit on my own accord, and was back to normal in about a week or two. Permanent re-wire is, I've heard, only for the length of time one keeps taking SSRIs.
