Should I Publish My Pros?

I write so damn much, but I never hear much feed back. I dont mean whether my grammar is correct...either (this is an obvious one haha)

I am thinking I should somehow put all of my writings together and publish them in a book.

Not to be famous, just as a token to myself and maybe allow someone to relate or contemplate or be catalyzed by something.

I don't even know what the process is...

Would anyreally care wtf a little 23 year old chick who grew up in suburbia and takes psychedelics has to say?

This is a common question I now ask myself.

 

Start by compiling all your stuff together, and arranging it as though it was a book. How the individual pieces are ordered can make a huge difference on how readable a collection of shorter bits of prose/poetry are.

Then put it down for a week and forget about it. Then pick it up and read it with as fresh of eyes as possible.

Have you considered submitting individual pieces for publication in a periodical? That's usually a better way to break into being published (I think), unless you write novels. Even then, it's probably best to start with short stories.

If you get around to compiling it all, load it up into a PDF or something. I'll volunteer as a sounding board.

Also-- you're only 23? Jeeze, now I feel old.

I am no stranger a fool then any other.. A little prodigy maybe, a little saged in spots but no less then equal.

Even with a receding hair line you keep up well with me .. haha

 

ohh yes, that would be excellent, I will order a new drum for my printer and get it all sorted and ready.

Do I just hand a few pieces off to a publisher? How does this work?

 

Look around for a good poetry or prose periodical, I don't really know of any that are any good. Or just get a few and read them, and see which one fits in best with your style. Talking to an English prof might help a bit more in that department. Then see if any accept unsolicited submissions. Be ready for TONS of rejections letters or even just no responses.

You could look into self-publishing too, but that's expensive and not necessarily well-regarded. Another option, and one that I think would suit you well, is online publication at least as a way to get your name out there. BL Blogs is awesome and all, but the readership is a bit low. Start looking around at literature and poetry blogs, network a bit, and eventually start your own on something like Wordpress. Build up enough content and readers, then self-publication would make a lot more sense.

But then again, I'm mostly only guessing here as my experience with publication is with scientific journals.
