Don't know if this belongs here so mods feel free to move it if you think it doesn't.

So I've been clean going on 7 months now and have recently been thinking on whether I should get tested for any blood borne illnesses I may or may not have contracted while I was IVing heroin.

I never shared needles. But I did reuse needles when I didn't have any new ones. And I once shared a water source with a chick I was hanging out with at the time and I understand that certain diseases don't show symptoms until long after you have gotten them like Hep C or stuff like that.

Anyway was wondering what people think any advice would be appreciated thanks.

Gt yourself checked, my friend found out a year after he quit heroin that he had hep c while he was in the hospital for something completely unrelated. If you had any kind of bacterial infection, you would have felt it and died a long time ago

^Yeah Hep C is my primary concern. I'm pretty sure the chick I was with was completely clean she was a nurse and all so I assume she was clean anyway. But is Hep C just blood borne or can you get it some other way?

I'm sure it can be transmitted sexually, though it's pretty rare. Usually hep c is caught from sharing needles, cookers, or cottons. It can survive in water for a real long time, something like two weeks.

^Yeah again I only shared a water source. Thanks for the advice I'm gonna get myself checked out as soon as I can.

I hope I'm clean but you never know I guess.

Bro big stuff like this don't ask us here we nay be well meaning addicts but were just that not doctors I say get down there asap good luckhomie.

I know an older lady that had gotten HC from having sex with her heroin addicted bf so it can be passed through sex as well.

Unfortunately all it takes is one single incident to contract Hepatitis C (and a variety of other BB illnesses). I shared needles, cottons, water sources and had unprotected sex with other addicts; thankfully I walked away with nothing but the clap (Thank Jesus on a pogostick for Doxycycline). I had my bloodwork done up for free when entering MMT, checking for all of the commonly transmitted diseases among the addict population. Whether you have health insurance or not, it is extremely important that you get yourself tested for the same panel of commonly transmitted diseases among the IDU (injection drug user) population. It won't be expensive, and in the event you have contracted something, the earlier you catch it the better. Go get tested ASAP.

^Thanks for the advice guys.

I plan to get checked out ASAP for the whole shebang. I doubt I have HIV or anything like that. But its better safe than sorry. I gotta admit though I am afraid of the result. Like deathly afraid. I know its better to catch it early. But what if its something they can't treat! I don't think I could live with knowing that I fucked up my life that bad for a drug that I want nothing to do with anymore!

Dr. House said it can be transmitted by using the same straw (to snort something) with someone who is HEPC positive.

Sure, get it checked out, if you are asking, you are better off with the peace of mind you are clean.
