I'm on 30mgs of vyvanse ( as im sure you all know by my many posts about it ) and ive had about 4 or 5 cups of coffee within the last 5 hours...i went for a run this morning and thats basically the only physical exertion ive had so far today...ive been singing all morning but i dont see how that would be too much of physical exertion..ive had my heart pound a few times to the point where it was really uncomfortable to say the least. should i be worried? or just keep on eye on it for now. I do want to exercise more later in the day.

Oh, and I had to use my inhaler after my run, which i believe is a steroid. its a rescue inhaler called symbicort. i know that can cause shakiness but not sure about heart palpatations

Hey,

Most palpitations are an awareness of our heart beating fast or strongly, rather than any problem with the rhythm - but next time it happens, tap out the rhythm to make sure it is regular just in case :) They are harmless in themselves unless they continue for long periods, but it would be worth mentioning them to the doctor who prescribes your Vyvanse.

Vyvanse and caffeine are enough to cause palpitations to be honest, but with the Symbicort as well I'm not surprised you got them. Symbicort contains two ingredients, a steroid and a long acting beta-2 agonist (formeterol) and it is the latter than can cause your heart to race. It is nothing to worry about - it should be self-terminating - but in future I'd avoid that much caffeine with Vyvanse as you could well become over-stimulated. If the palpitations are irregular, get some medical help (immediately if they persist or a routine appointment if they are short-lived) and as always, if you are concerned (eg if they aren't stopping or you get chest pains/dizziness) get yourself to a doctor ASAP!

^ this

Also recommend not exercising on stimulants, as it can increase blood pressure and BPM even further.

Good advice all around.

In my experience, mixing Dexedrine (which is the same thing, dextroamphetamine, that Vyvanse gets metabolized into) with coffee or other sources of caffeine causes higher levels of anxiety, which causes me to think about the fact that my heart is beating faster...or maybe vise-versa. However, caffeine isn't really agree with me in the first place. Your mileage may vary.

Either way, remember that mixing stimulants can be very dangerous practice. Adding physical exertion on top of that (which naturally brings your heart rate up) can cause problems.

As others have mentioned before, you should be okay. However, if you experience chest pain or shortness of breath, seek medical attention ASAP.

but...i love exercising. lol i have to exercise, so far i havent felt any problems from exercising while on the vyvanse, this is the first time ive felt anything abnormal.
and also, i tend to often have an irregular heart beat...i have a blood pressure machine at home and i use it often because i use to have very low bp while pregnant, and now i use it to monitor if i take any type of drug just too make sure its not to high or low and it often tends to show a fluttering heart which we called the company about and they said it means the heart beat is irregular and to take the pressure again and if its the same fluttering heart, to go to a hospital...any time that i've had the fluttering heart sign, the next time i take my pressure (which is always only a few minutes after) its been fine...I don't know if thats anything i should be concerned about, but i suppose ill tell my doctor just in case, especially now with a stimulant prescribed perhaps i should get checked up more often.

thank you, i would think exercise is good though, no? i do cardio regularly and yoga, isn't that type of exercise suppose to strength your heart and lungs?

Exercise is good. Over-exerting yourself while on stimulants is a bad idea though. Your cardiovascular system is already under stress from stimulants, add in strenuous exercise and you have (what sounds like) a heart issue waiting to happen.

Not saying it's going to kill you next time, but I would avoid going too 'gung-ho' if you will. Take it easy, will ya! Haha.

Heart palpitations can be quite common with amphetamines and caffeine, especially when combined in high doses. And symbicort (as other asthma medications) can also cause heart palpitations/tachycardia.

And btw, symbicort is NOT a rescue inhaler, such as albuterol sulfate. Symbicort is a preventative measure, and will not stop an asthma attack. You should really consult your doctor on that, because if he told you to take it if you are having trouble breathing or having an asthma attack, it might be time to find a new doctor. Symobicort is not going to help you with any sudden breathing problems, and if you are feeling relief is is merely a placebo effect. You really need and albuterol sulfate inhaler if you need it for sudden difficulty when breathing or having asthma attacks.

Wow, thank you for that information. i did not know that. He's always told me I can use it as needed.. yeah i need to get a rescue inhaler then because i started going for runs, and afterwards and during i have a lot of difficulty breathing and start to wheeze afterwards.

Glad we could help. Don't go overboard with the caffeine when you're taking amphetamines and I bet you have a lot less trouble.

I'm going to go ahead and close this now since we've gotten some excellent answers across the board here, if anyone has any questions or would like to add anything, feel free to PM me.
