Opioids Should I avoid Immodium during withdrawal?

Im prescribed lomotil which is basically immodium - Lomotil also contains opiates. On one hand, I want to use it to stop the runs but should I avoid it given that one of its ingredients is exactly what im looking to rid myself of? Any advice would be appreciated.

Loperamide, the active ingredient in Imodium, is an opioid but it doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) so it only acts on the mu opioid receptors in the large intestine (unless taken in extremely high does). Loperamide actually helps with withdrawal, especially with the 'runs' and stomach cramps. So you should be OK.

Okay so I have work on Monday morning and want to be completely rid of all w/d symptoms by then. Immodium will most certainly help in the short term by clogging me up, but will it in effect extend w/d? Will my stomach experience w/d symptoms longer because natural w/d is essentially being inhibited? Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Loperamide is ideal for opiate wds, as it will help combat the physical symptoms of withdrawal whilst not really prolonging the main psychological effects. Just drink a lot of water to stay well hydrated and you should avoid excessive constipation.

You may need to taper the Loperamide, but that will be childsplay, comparing how much progress you've made. Kava Kava or Gabapentin may help with mood and some of the physical aspects of withdrawal, in particular joint pain.
