short term (week-ish) methadone use and withdrawals...how long?

Hey everyone, I'm no stranger to this site but I finally got an account...only took a year or two ;)
Anyways, I've gotten so much information from multiple threads, but I have a pretty specific question I haven't found an answer for.

here's some background on me:
I had been taking opiates about a 2 years, starting with the good old oxys and eventually moved onto h...this was march 2011 so a little over a year now. My last time using was the beginning of May (this year). Since then, I've used methadone and suboxone to help me out since every attempt to quit has been a sad attempt to say the least... anyways i took dones in may for about 2 weeks, 20mg/day the first week, 10mg the second, then ran out and started on suboxone may 20, only taking 1/4 strip (2mg) every 24 hours...which barely did anything but I wanted to stay as low as possible. I did that for about 10 days and then switched back to dones once I could get those again.

So to get to my question..... This last run with the dones was 9 days at 10mg/day...the lowest I could take without feeling completely crappy. I stopped taking the dones after 9 days hoping to have slight withdrawals.... well this will be the morning of day 6 completely clean from everything and I still feel bothersome withdrawals (non stop back/leg pain and cold sweats, insomnia). I guess I'm just wondering what people's opinions are on how long these withdrawals should last, and also, I have both methadone and suboxone but havent used either because I'm too scared that it'll just re-start the withdrawals :/ it's been a long six days...not to mention my job has me on my feet all day. Will taking suboxone at this point be a bad idea?? Answers would be appreciated! :)

Hi, welcome to BL :)

I'm going to move this to OD as they are the methadone experts and have a megathread on it in the OD directory, hope that is okay :)

BDD > OD

I would just try to ride it out. Even if you were to take Suboxone and taper off of that you will still be achy for a while after you stop. If you really need relief then I would just take 0.5mg of Suboxone every other day, then every 3 days, then once you get to every 4 days then stop. I know that's a low dose but since you are 6 days into withdrawal then it will help you enough without being a total setback.

Thanks for the response, if I ended up taking suboxone, is it pretty certain I'm only going to prolong withdrawals or do you think such a low amount and a short amount of time wouldnt cause withdrawals? I'm not expecting to dodge every withdrawal symptom, but will that suboxone schedule you said set me up to go through withdrawals all over again? I don't want the last 6 days to be in vain...it's been rough. I would just like to find something that'll give even the slightest bit of relief.

I would just get some loperamide (imodium) then. It will help with the withdrawal symptoms, particularly stomach/bowel movement problems. It won't do much for aches though, so get some ibuprofen for that. Also check out this thread for other ways to help ease the withdrawal symptoms.
