it can only be prescribed for 30 days supply by a regular old GP. if you want repeats you have to see a PM doc or specialist who will prescribe on the regular. unless your doctor has the right authority to prescribe opiates (which mine does, i get morphine of him every month)
Out of over 10 docs which I have gone to for pain relief only 1 has not had authorisation to dispense, and she was an international doctor here for a qualification. To me the 'regular' old GP can prescribe for 6 months without state authorisation but maybe that's just my state. One doc I had never seen before and i just walked in and said I need more oxy (after explaining my condition and up coming internal surgery), she prescribed no questions asked, no proof needed. I realise that doctor was an exception but if you know the trade/have some smarts Oxy is not as hard to get in aus as heaps of people claim (such as earlier in this thread).
authorisation for 6 months of oxycodone does require authorisation. if tramadol requires the same, why wouldn't oxycontin?
did your doctor ring up, quote a few numbers, punch em into his computer, print your script and let you be on your way? yeah, that's him obtaining the authority.
Didn't do any of that. I've had authorisation for lots of things before, heck even for 12 boxes of pseudofed, but deffinably not one now. Did someone says it's only needed for scripts of more than 20 pills? I get 60 a month but I have to pick up a script every 10 days (ie no repeats). Maybe it's just my state.
there was some discussion of authorisation of different meds just the other night in here (the valium thread where the OP was given a full box instead of a 15ct) and it was mentioned that different meds (boxes of 20x20mg oc's possibly included) may only require a streamline authority instead of having to ring for the authorisation number. the DDU aren't going to dispense oxycodone out willy nilly without authorisation, tracking and keeping a record. there is authorisation needed.
Pseudoephedrine is only listed on the RPBS, and it's not an authority item.
I'm a little out of it still but oxycodone isn't streamlined I believe I finally found out... it is Restricted Benefit so can only be prescribed for certain conditions. Authorities from the PBS and from the State health authority are needed for increased repeats or maximum quantities though. If a doctor was already planning to do this with a patient he may have organized it before hand.
