Hey I decided it finally join BL anyways Ive just started experimenting with IVing & have a few questions.

I have a friend ive shot mostly oxy with but also heroin.
he puts the oxy pills on a spoon & than crushes them with another spoon on top. he than puts water on the spoon with the crushed oxy & draws it back in to his rig. he re-uses rigs too so i guess this could contaminate the spoon.
If I were to reuse that same spoon could i be at risk of catching what he has? (Im pretty sure the answer to this is yes but im just curious)
anyways. I have re-used the same spoon as him before but he has washed it clean with water first before I've proceed to crush my oxy on it and do the same. I'm assuming this is safe?
u dont have to wash the spoon with boiling water or anything do u?
I think im worrying about nothing as obviously washing the spoon would get rid of any hep on it right?
It would be a bit of a worry if water didnt clean off the blood completely cuz his used alot of times & eventually when I go there his gunna give me a spoon to use that he has already drawed liquid off with a syringe at some point.

My friend also says he USED TO have hep C but it was cured. Im not sure if this is possible. or if he just means the disease is dormant.
Is hep C curable?
if it is curable, would that mean that I couldnt catch it off him cuz he has been cured?
Obviously if he has hep C & it's just dormant I could still catch it off him.

I got some tests done anyway & Im clear of hep B, C, & HIV. It's been a wake up call as my liver function said my enzymes are high or something & I might have hep C. It's a relief I don't.

I can do research on the rest. all I really need to know is if washing the spoon with just tap water will get rid of any diseases that may be on the spoon from him drawing back liquid from a re-used rig. If tap water is good enough to clean the spoon does it HAVE to be boiling water. cuz in past the his just quickly held the spoon under the tap & scrubbed it a bit.
Im pretty sure the water would wash off any blood. just wanna be safe than sorry
what do other ppl do?
When I go to his house should I bring my own spoon?
Is there anyway of properly cleaning a spoon that has been used by someone else?

Water will not kill hep C. You are at risk when sharing IV equipment with someone that has the disease, even if you use your own needle. It does not have to be spread directly by their blood since the disease can spread easier than that, so anything that their blood has come in contact with can be contaminated, even after the blood has been rinsed away with water.

I used to have a GF with Hep C, she got it sharing a needle. She later got liver cancer, which she beat thru chemo, but I don't believe there is a cure for Hep C

is there a way of cleaning the spoon incase i dont have one with me?
what u u scrub it use boiling water. are u saying i should bring me own spoon?
its hard to beleive that u can get hep from a spoon that has be washed thoroughly with water.
when im at his house I wouldnt know what spoons his previously had his dope on.

i'll bring my own spoon next time but if i just happen to end up at his house & i dont have a spoon how would i go about sterilizing one of his spoons?

im worried now. my test results came back clear for hepb, c & hiv but i shot up with him a few weeks ago. I didnt use the same spoon as him I dont think but it was one of his spoons which he may of used before to shoot up. the spoon was clean but who knows. if water doesnt kill it as u say it does.
how long does hep stay on a spoon before it dies?
what is the "window period" after getting hep before u can get a positive result for it.
i dont wanna have to go & get tested again

If I remember correctly, some strains of the hep virus can live for up to a week outside the body. And to completely sterilise something with boiling water, you're gonna have to keep it at that temperature for at least 15 mins, so in future just try to bring all your own equipment.

Not sure about how long it takes to detect though, depending on where you live there are probably health help phone lines to hospitals etc. which can give you more info.

well I used one of his spoons a while ago. the spoon had been cleaned. it may not have ever been used to put his drugs on or it may have been quite some time since he did use that spoon to put it drugs on. He may have also only used that spoon with new needles.
so i guess theres a if if any of those points are correct im in the clear.

worst case scenario:
a few days before I used the spoon he out his drugs on there & re-used one of his old needles to draw the liquid off but. He washed the spoon but didnt use hot water & didnt scrub it really well.
what do u think my chances of catching hepc off him would be. he did say he once had hepc like i said but he said it had been "cured".
I also need to find out whether if hep c is cured it can no longer be passed to someone else.

im kinda worried i just hope he washed that spoon well if he had used it & it hadnt been used in over a week.
do u think washing it COULD possibly remove the hep c or is it really have that much of a resistance.
im thinking its possible i wash of the spoon COULD remove the hep, right?

Do I need to go back to the drs again & get another test?
ive told u the situation it seems highly unlikely the spoon still have hep c on it but theres always that possibility.
Im still shocked that if u thoroughly wash a spoon which may have 1/10th of a mL of blood on it u can still catch hep C. I bet there are alot of ppl on BL that didnt know that & have used spoons at other ppls houses they though were clean.
where i live they have a ph number u can call about medical questions called after hours medical hotline. I'll talk to a someone there & report back here what they have to say

It really is impossible for us to say, it's just going to be speculation, no-one is gonna know for sure until you get another blood test.

Normally we'd close threads like this as we don't allow speculation type questions, but will leave open for now to hear what the medical hotline has to say.

ok i'll call them now. its late at night 10:30 so i dunno if it would still be working. guess that's the point of it. otherwise i'll get back to u tomorrow/ i can aslo ask if ive ever used a spoon that my mates used even if he washed the dishes

OK I talked to the dr. I used one of my mates spoons about 3 weeks ago. & only got tested for help b & c a week ago,
she said if i had hep it would have came out in the test. I thought there was a window period. but apparently u get hep u can be tested for it the next day & it will show up.

This doesnt sound right to me. i'll get another opinion. or i might do some research about hep & see if there's a window period where u have to wait after uve been infected before u can take a test which will determine whether u have it.

maybe im thinking about hiv. she sounded pretty sure though that it would have came out in my test even if i only got infected 3 weeks ago

mods can leave this open if anyone is cuirous about whether u can be tested straight away after getting hep because im gunna get a 2nd opinion tomorrow.

anyways ive had 100mg of promethazine & 16mg of buprenorphine so im gunna go to bed now....

oh before i go to bed. my mate said that he used to have hep b but he took meds & it has been cured. as in if he were to be tested for it, it would come up negative.
I never thought it could be cured...... does anyone know?
If it is possible for hepb to be cured does that mean that i couldnt catch it from him?

if it hasnt been cured it would atleast be in a dormant state. im assuming if i got some of his blood into my body i would be infected.
Advances in treatment for hepatitis C mean more than 70 per cent of carriers can be cured if it is diagnosed early. Yet most of the half a million people with the condition are unaware they are infected, an expert said today.

I am still shocked that u can catch hep b from a spoon that may not have been used to shoot up for a week. may have been used to eat from & may have been cleaned with water and a scourer probably a few times.
He's not gunna know which spoons his used to put drugs on before. he'd just use it wash it & put it in the draw back with the rest of the spoons.
say i did use one of his spoons his used about a week ago & cleaned several times. hopefully soaking them in hot water with detergant.
what do u think the chance of me getting something from the spoon would be?
how long will the hepc virus stay alive on a spoon. washing it must help get rid of it atleast.
are u saying that even if the spoon is cleaned thoroughly it will be still contaminated or is there a chance u can actually wash off all the blood?
what im trying to ask is. I know that what ya saying is possible & u COULD get hepc but I just want to know if it is PROBABLE that if I used the same spoon with the probably the same details as above above (washed a few times, maybe soaked in hot water with detergent) I'll definitely catch something if they have something. What % chance do u thiink I would have of getting it knowing he has it. (or had it as he claims)

When he uses his spoons for oxy. all binders a stuck on them so he'd have to use a scourer to scrub it all off. do u think that could possibly get rid of it or would it still definitely be left on the spoon?

If im going to IV with him again I'll bring my own spoon but say if im out & about & get invited over & cant pick up one from home how can i make sure one of his is sterile?
Could I boil some water in a kettle, put the water in a saucepan & than let the spoon sit in the water for a while. how long would it have to be in the boiled water?
would using detergent help?
How do I sterilize a spoon even if it looks completely clean & hasnt been used for a week?

im still just shocked at how resistant the disease really. I would have thought that if ya washed the blood off than ya washing the hepc along with it, right?
