I'd love to see everyone's ingenuity. Please share your coolest homemade vaping/smoking devices.

This post was inspired by my witnessing a device called a "Lamp" used for 5MeO-DMT inhalation. It's a glass tube with a piston, the chamber is filled with argon gas and then the substance is heated and vaporized in the presence of the inert gas so no burning can occur. I'd love to try to make one, though I would think the tolerancing on the piston/tube would be slim (either it'd leak or the piston would get stuck if it were slightly too big).

I’ve seen some wild DIY setups over the years, but the one with the argon gas chamber sounds like something out of a lab, pretty fascinating. I’ve personally tinkered with a few simple things like modified glassware and repurposed vape parts. One setup I’ve used involves a box mod I picked up from https://ecigone.co.uk/collections/vape-mods which I adapted slightly for experimenting with different materials. Nothing as intricate as the “Lamp,” though. I’d be curious how the piston system manages heat expansion and sealing without binding. Anyone here ever tried something similar or have tips on working with tight glass tolerances?

I was thinking along the same lines of what you mentioned. I was curious how tight the tolerancing had to be on that piston system; too tight and the piston wouldn't move up when the argon was filling, and too loose and it'd leak. Plus, since it travels along the glass tube, you'd need to have a source for glass tubing that had a very consistent inside diameter.

I don't think heat would have much of an effect since it's not like you're putting a torch to the glass, there's just a small heating element in the bottom that heats the substance but I imagine it's not enough to affect the shape of the glass in a significant way.

This is the first site I've seen where someone is actually making this lamp device and selling it. Pretty cool combination of art and functionality.

When I was younger I used to cut the bottoms off of CO2 cartridges and drill a hole in the bottom of them (forming a hollow semi-sphere) - then I'd wrap some kraft paper around the outside until it fit snugly in the neck of a bottle opening and I'd use that as a bowl for weed waterfalls.

I prefer using metal and glass, not a fan of plastic or even foil when it comes to vaporizing/burning something and inhaling it into your lungs.

The lightbulb technique was actually one of the first ways I tried smoking weed but I'm weirded out by that too since the inside of the glass has a coating - even if you wash it off there's probably some residual that you can't see.
