I have already made a thread a while ago about this but am making a new one since some things have changed...

I am a 24 yr old male with psychosis and take invega sustenna 75 mg every 4 weeks for it and since taking this drug I notice my erections aren't as hard and my orgasms not as pleasurable/satisfying anymore plus I have almost no more semen coming out and I would say my sex drive is some what lower...

I have talked to my psychiatrist about this and he is lowering the dose of invega and will go down to 50 mg and if it doesn't work he will try Abilify...

I also had my prolactin tested and it is at 48...

Now what I am wondering is how likely is it that my sexual feelings will return to normal while taking these meds?

If you have experienced this I would like to hear your stories on how you are dealing with the issues, what kind of meds you tried etc...

Anti-depressants *always* affected my libido/orgasms. The only fix I found was Maca root. I take 500mg of 5:1 root (2500mg) from Rainforest Foods, and it cured my sexual dysfunction. It revived my sex drive, but be careful: it increased sperm production and you'll find yourself gushing everywhere :)

Hope this helps.

It is very common to have sexual problems when on meds like this. In the past i had a boyfriend who, when he started taking antipsychotics, found it difficult to get or sustain an erection, and he never came. I also had a boyfriend who got on antidepressants and experienced the same sexual side effects until he stopped taking them and our sex life returned to normal. You'll probably just have to talk to your dr about it more, and really try to find a different med that doesn't have this effect on you.

Good luck!

is it safe to take antipsychotics with maca roots?

I was, for a period of time, taking olanzapine 20mg twice a day and LiCO3 1.2g once a day. Obvious by this high lithium single dose, I quickly lost faith in my psych when I started to do some research. Anyway, during this short "treatment" regimen, I was a 21 yo with trace levels of libido. Upon discontinuing olanzapine , the problem was not as pronounced, yet was still present. Only an anecdote though.

Being on Lexapro then switched to Prozac has given me a hard time obtaining erection. I hope once I'm off the Meds it will return to normal.

Neuroleptics are absolutely brutal, last-resort drugs that psychiatrists now prescribe like candy. If there is any alternative to antipsychotics/SSRI's/SSNRI's I would try that path. These drugs doom you to a less than satisfactory life filled with torturous side effects unless you are a rare case in which they are essential. Would you mind explaining the circumstances in which you were diagnosed?

I am prescribe antipsychotic for a psychosis episode I had 2 years ago

these kind of drugs are known for this type of problem... its unfortunate, and most dr's are too embarrassed to even bring it up, much less warn u ahead of time.
i had a female dr get nasty with me about how zoloft effects my urinary abilities and ejaculation. she truly didnt understand, and didnt care to learn to, that stupid bi***... im sry for your problems OP i wish i could offer an alternative. do benzo's help avoid any psychosis?

if u dont REALLY REALLY need these drugs. DONT TAKE THEM they are highly debated amongst people from the basic no-knowledge person all the way to a PHD DR. i think they should only be used when there is absolutely NO other choice.

gosh im so sry. i hope i never get put on drugs like this. good luck OP. :)

i doubt u could stay on the drugs and be able to have normal/good sex-life and function. hope thats what u were asking.

EDIT: **dont just drop your meds because of anything u read on here!!** just make sure u speak up and discuss what we have all said in here with your DR. this is an important thing to fix, i wish u the best!

Speaking antipsychotics in general...yeah, Quetiapine (seroquel, if any don't know..) 300mg/day has about the same effects. It is unfortunate but I personally find SSRI's much worse in this regard...

Don't ask me why but I say try passionflower..Tea and/or capsules. Few trials without aphrodisiac intent resulted in (mild, but nonetheless noted) aphrodisiac effect. Any knowledge on this?
