If someone had a cage in their basement in which they locked people that they thought had done something wrong then you'd consider it wrong in all likelyness. Prison doesn't help people for the most part, so why use it? Just to torture people you disagree with? Why not actually try and make the situation better instead of reverting to childish and barbaric means of making people do what you want? Prison simply doesn't work in its current state. People who do things that are wrong need rehabilitation, not punishment, and most people released from prison return to committing crime after their release.
Most people in prison don't deserve to be there, but that's a subjective argument. Most people in prison are there for victimless crimes. Normal citizens are also not good in my opinion, I find most of them to be horrible people.
The simplicity of your post is funny. MDMA wouldn't be given to him as a drug, it would be given to him for therapy. Pedophiles don't choose to be pedophiles, humans aren't neccesarily in control of our sexual desires (gay people don't choose to be gay, people with foot fetishes don't choose to have them, pedophiles don't choose to be attracted to young people), and if he was intoxicated it's understandable (although still not acceptable) that his behaviour could get out of hand. Would you feel that the system was justified in harming you permanently (I wonder how easy it is to get a job while in the sex offenders registry) if you had taken a drug, blacked out, and woken up having done something you never would have dreamed of doing sober?
How would prison help more then intensive therapy and rehabilitation coupled with a punishment that wasn't inhumane? What good will come of this guy being locked up that couldn't come from treatment?
The bottom line is that this guy is mentally ill, and mental illness should not be punished. He didn't choose to be a pedophile, and he didn't do anything wrong until he was not his normal self. He didn't have control over this situation, so why should he be hurt over it? It's not like prison will make him stop being attracted to minors.
If no other treatment works and he committs a similar crime again then he should be sterilized. That way there is a humane solution that's guaranteed to work without denying him basic human rights. We as a society should be more compassionate and less barbaric in the way we treat people. We're all human, put yourself in his shoes.
I agree with the sentiment of this post.
