Hey guys, about a month and a half ago I was doing quite allot of gear, I had done about a gram within a 24 hour period and half a gram the day before.

Anyway I get home from work with a work mate and I use swabs on bottle cap on my arm and cook up 1/4g. I don't remember much at all after that. In fact until my workmate reminded me I didn't remember the day at all when people started telling me stuff I started to remember but barely. Aparently right after the shot i went to sleep for an hour or two woke up a couple of times went to the toilet and was pretty normal (Breathing normally)

One thing I do remember is waking up at some point in time and feeling like i needed to vomit however i never made it and somehow tripped over.

I wake up 3 days later in ICU and then they knocked me out again.

I was found approx 8 hours after I fell with vomit in my lungs suffering from hypoxia, kidney failure, liver failure, sever loss of muscle in my left side (From not moving that caused the kidney failure) renal failure, sever septic shock, and heart infection.

When the special intensive care ambulance arrived they put a tube threw my chest (Not sure why probably to drain the vomit) and there was a pretty big hole.

They hospital called my mum and told them they were not sure if i was going to make it and to come down ASAP. I ended up being completely woken up after 4 days, they had used a research drug on me (Lucky the research team were in ICU that day) apparently without this special drug I wouldnt have survived, how lucky! I had to spend a week in hospital on strong anti-biotic as well as 20mg oxy day and night + 2 endone day and night and 2 valiums day and night.

My question is, how common is severe septic shock in H users and IV users in general, I have no idea how i could have gotten it considering everything I used was clean. Also is it really that lethal? They were also shocked i had no brain damage due to the extent of the hypoxia.

Cheers

from different strains of bacteria entering your blood stream, for a number of reasons; bad dope, poor hygiene along line.

yes indeed it is very lethal, and can cause a number of other problems, jaundice, or even some autoimmune disorders.

the bacterium can infiltrate your CNS, and then your brain, if this occurs any damage is non reversible and possibly progressive, if it is caught earlier, so many days in ICU on a penicillin regime is all thats needed, besides constant monitoring and fluids etc..

you saved your ass going in man.
no, fucking, joke about that...
BE SAFE

I didn't go in, I was found 8 or so hours (They somehow estimated im guessing from muscle loss) after and my flat mate called the ambos.

Ill try and find the name of the research drug they gave me a whole paper on it. One of the possible side effects is internal bleeding and coughing up blood luckily i didn't bleed internally.

i was going to ask what they gave you..?
something to look for in the long run with this, would be Sacroillitiis, or ilium region disturbances.

if this comes up, and isnt caught(progressive quiet riot), youll be in my little world of seronegative spondarthritis/apathy.
so yeah, if your back/abdomen starts hurting in the mornings, and or other joints consistently and progressively, it would be a good idea to mention the Sepsis, and Sacroillitis relation to a doctor eventually, theyd know what you are talking about, and hopefully treat you accordingly.
it is a possibility now, and could be harbored and kept minor if you are aware,,,(gotta try you know) and caught it.

you are a lucky dog, id go by a lottery ticket.
;)
oh, BTW, has your view on H changed any?
*crosses fingers

Thanks for the advice mate.

Kind of, I used 5 or so times after that and then move back to Sydney so I stopped looking for H and somehow got a hook up for hydromorphone IV ampules and high dose Jurnista tablets so I've stuck to those.

for sure, its stuff that as you may of read, hardly anyone knows of, but can occur in incidents like yours, so, i wish i knew about this before, even though i made it through with out ever contracting a sepsis type infection.
although i did have some bad phlebitis in the crook of my left-arm-@-15, that almost got out of control///:\
i could easily be typing half the speed right now!!! uhg, n/m
well, forget the H then, just the needle in general is what i really mean, as addictive as any drug and just as lethal, i know cocaine isnt very popular down there, but, heheh that was my true vice, besides a needle fixation.

good luck, & be wise.

damn bro, all i want to say is give your mind and body time to heal, low dose, if you can get clean and let your body regenerate. get your center aligned. good luck

I OD'd as when i was younger(not opiates), came minutes from dying the doctor said; so i can relate to that, I have some permanent damage from that still haunts me.

I have definably relaxed on the needle and am trying to get help. No more withdrawls thankfully. Liver and kidney function returned to normal within 5 days which is pretty amazing. The body is a great machine. Maybe it's because im only 19

That sounds like a horrible time. Im glad you came out of it OK. But you sould use it as a learning experience and try to better your life, even just because of the fact that you almost lost it.

Good Luck Man

our bodies are amazing, simple in theory; lungs breath enrich blood; heart pushes and pulls blood to and from liver to break down and disperse; pancreas stores glucose insulin & concentrated reserve red blood cells; bones store build white blood cells; lymph system caries wasted cells, waste, and impurities out; brain cns make it all stay functioning properly.

the thought of RBC's, how they are created in a chain of events being hit with oxygen, the iron content becomes active, carried through your system, bringing oxygen and iron where needed, then after doing so it brakes down into a few things, but i know one bi product is bilirubin-stomach acid, helping digest, break down food/substances so that it is sent off to the right place; blood vessels in stomach, vitamins/aminos/minerals, liquid or solid waste, and it continues from there constantly & amazingly, we hope.
you gotta marvel at, and respect that, that being you.
;)

its a symphony, of squishy organs :D every thing cooperating, playing off each other, in perfect timing, each has their simple part to play in order to carry a complex being into life.

i love it.

Glad to hear you're alright and recovering man!

Its not as common as one might expect it to be, which surprises me! Many of the things people consider 'clean' when injected really aren't sterile. When you inject, you're bypassing most of your body's immune defenses so it puts you at a greater risk for infection.

Its commonly lethal or at least very damaging because the infection can be widespread, carried throughout the body in blood resulting in multiple organ infections. Its very serious stuff.

If you continue to inject, I'd reccomend using micron filters as well as practicing more sterile technique to help reduce the amount of bacteria in what you inject.

Glad you made it ok, but you're only 19 and life is ahead of you and it has a lot to offer.
Keep it safe.

good to hear you're still with us! you're extremely lucky and i would thank that friend of yours who called the ambulance.

just out of curiosity.. what happened with the hole they put in your chest? did it close up on its own, did they stitch it shut or do you still have it?

Damn, Im the same age as you, kick the H bud. Its going to do you no good what-so-ever.

If your going to use drugs, pick out some party stuff and just use it recreational.

Trying not to have a go at you but after reading that first post your lucky to be here and tell the story. Treat life as a gift, don't abuse it.

Study Details

Study Title: PROWESS-Shock (Protocol F1K-MC-EVDP)

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter, Phase 3 study of Drotrecogin alfa (activated) administered as a constant 96-hour infusion to adult patients with septic shock *I only had 36 hours apparently*

In 2001, a large study involving more then 1600 patients world-wide, showed that patients wtih sever septic shock benefited from being treated with Xgris. Since then though, two other studies using Xgris in other groups of patients with sever sepsis did not show the same positive result.

Drotrecogin alfa is approved by the TGA for us in Australia for the treatment of severe sepsis in patients with a high risk of death, but because of the mixed results from previous studies, and the very high cost of using the drug, Drotrecogin alfa is not commonly used in Australian ICU's

(Goes onto say 1500 people worldwide and 10 people from The Alfred)

Eli Lilly and Company will pay the hospital for staff and research costs. (They told me roughly $10k and apparently the drug itself costs nearly as much)
************************

They also took a number of blood tests afterwards and done some DNA testing to see why I responded so well to the drug. When I went to my GP and he got the report he was shocked that i was still alive and not brain damaged.

^^^^
I believe that is what it was used for, they kept a sticky film on for about a week then I took it off when i got home and there were two pretty big scars but they have seemed to have healed.

Thanks guys for all your support.

Mate,

If you live in Syd, have you considered going to the needle exchanges and/or shooting rooms in the Cross just to be safe? I know you said that you've cut back on the H but if you relapse, using 100% clean needles (not saying you didn't before) and being seconds away from a medical professional wouldn't be a bad idea at all.

I don't know if this is a 'bottom' for you but fuck, it sure would be for me. Maybe time to give Suboxone or Methadone a crack?

No judgement intended.

Yeah I use the shooting gallery whenever I do hydromorphone ampules.

I went to go on Suboxone but it seems pretty steep, I was told I would be started on 4 or 8mg a day and thats just way to much I don't wanna take it daily when I use weekly and have no WD's.
