My friend sometimes gets a severe pain in her head, but has only ever had it when using drugs.

She says it starts off as what feels like a light pressure building up at the front of her head, and it builds up and she describes it as when the pressure gets released it transforms into a severe pain in her head that is so painful she cant move or even speak sometimes she has to just lay down and wait for it to pass whilst in severe agony. It usually passes within 10mins or so and she feels completely normal after.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what it may be and if its a cause for concern?

Thanks.

Which drugs? All drugs?

I found I got extreme headaches when smoking any part of the cannabis plant except the bud. Stems, seeds, ... All gave me extreme headaches.

Dehydration can also cause extreme headaches (or in my case, an intense throbbing and warm feeling near the front of my head). Does your friend drink enough water? I'd say tell her to try drinking more water (I was drinking 80oz a day and that wasn't enough--Upped it to 100oz on days I do nothing and 2-300oz on days I'm active, so don't go by the eight, eight-ounce glasses "rule" as it doesn't work for everybody.).

And, side note, but don't worry about water intoxication as long as she's not chugging all the water at once. I typically drink 10-20oz throughout an hour or so.
