Serotonin Syndrome?

I recently started taking Fluoxetine (10mg), and just self-medicated with 10mg Adderall. Because of the low doses of each, do you think there is any risk of Seratonin Syndrome? Or is it a issue that comes up differently from user to user?

Hi tjtigers14. To my knowledge Adderall does not cause the release of a significant amount of serotonin. I'm going to move this to Basic Drug Discussion where you may get more information.

I saw a "MAJOR REACTION" (Red, bold letters) on Drugs.com, but also saw that tons of people are prescribed both. I hope my paranoia is all stemming from drugs.com

It's hard to tell if you'll have a reaction or not...but even regular old amphetamine does increase serotonin levels (although on a much smaller scale than, say, methamphetamine).

There is the possibility of serotonin syndrome, however.

Yeah. The issue is twofold - SSRIs can potentiate stimulants, and amphetamines can have serotinergic properties. Amphetamine sulphate is a weak MAOI and this can increase serotonin levels (as well as norepinephrine and dopamine) - MAOIs should be avoided with SSRIs because of the risk of serotonin syndrome - but it is very weak and a lot of people are okay with the combination.

I would say that yes there is a risk, but it is small. It's up to you whether it is worth taking the risk or not.
