I take 25 mg to 100 mg Seroquel for sleep/insomnia as needed/wanted.

If you take it for sleep/insomnia, what is your dose/dosage?

How long (how many minutes/hours?) before it kicks in?

How many hours do you sleep after taking it?

Thanks for your time!

2 hrs for it to peak from memory.
zyprexa takes like 5 hrs.
umm its a shoter acting antipychotic. so u'll only sleep for 8-9 hrs
u'r not taking a high dose. I used to take up to 400mg.
to my surprize they actually come in 300mg tablets yet I had the 100mg ones.
i remember being stoned & taking 150mg i felt smashed from it & had to go to bed pretty quick

I have only taken it about 8 times, but always for sleep. I have found 25mgs to be a little too small of a dose, and 100mgs to be too high of a dose. 50mgs is ideal for me, but I guess if you are used to it then you will find yourself needing more than that.

It has me sleeping a little less than an hour after taking it. It doesn't really effect the amount of time I sleep for. I still sleep for the same amount of time, but wake up pretty groggy the next morning. I do find it easier to fall back asleep in the morning though.

I have found anti-psychotics to be useful drugs as i used to have insomnia which I dont have anymore.
Ive never found much use in anti-depressants except for Tramadol which isnt technically an AD but still is an SNRI.
I can tell u Id rather a mild hangover than have to lay there half the night waiting to get to sleep.
I remember i used to get insomnia the few nights after I went out drinking I wish I would have known about anti-psychotics then or atleast taken the otc phenergan (promethazine) which is actually an antipchotic & a sedating antihistamine. Ive learnt that if u have insomnia its best to take something.
now that i have Zyprexa another AP on hand i never have to worry about insomnia again.
& with knowing about cwe i can always have something available for a headache

Thanks for the reply!

How long does Seroquel take when it makes you feel sleepy? I think there's a difference between "peak effect" and feeling sleepy, in my opinion.

Did the psych/doc prescribe you Seroquel especially for sleep (if so, what dose was the prescription for sleep)?

I've tried zyprexa/olanzapine before for a couple of months and I didn't feel the med work. Like a placebo. So the doc/psych stopped it.

What's the duration of action of Seroquel, how long would you feel tired or sleepy on it?

In my opinion you sleep like 8-9 hours and then when you wake up you can choose to stay in bed and try to fall asleep again or you can get up, once you get up you're not really tired IME. I take 100mg and sometimes I wait and wait for the tiredness to hit me and sometimes I fall asleep within the hour.

they presrive from 25mg all the way to 400mg. I used to sometimes take 400mg but it will leave u feeling pretty heavy the next morning. 250mg is the perfect dose imo. & im talking a decent dose for serious insomnia.
seroquel is the AP usually presribed for insomnia. i had it presribged of-label for anxiety & insomnia. not skitzophrenia or bipolar. roughly 100mg seroquel= 5mg zyprexa

I take zyprexa now instead or seroquel but have to dose it about 3-4 hrs before bed I used to start feeling tired 1 hr after taking seroquel. they feel very similar. zyprexa lasts longer & takes longer to kick in.
google antipsychotic comparison charts. Ive dowloaded some good ones that have plenty of info. including how much weight each AP puuts on on average , tere peak times, which recepters they hit etc.
if ur having trouble choosing an AP. Seroquel is the most popular AP Im pretty sure
it's an anithistamine too. so helps with allergies/asthma. is not a bad med. better than antidepressants. id rather a mild hangover than have insomnia

I take 200mg of Seroquel XR. It doesn't make me drowsy anymore, but I remember feeling sleepy around 45 minutes after taking it. Another family member takes 150mg of the non-extended release, and it sedates him enough to sleep.
